As an RMT (Registered Massage Therapist), we tend to often be overlooked by those people who come to see us mostly for relaxation purses and very seldom for therapeutic treatments (unless you work in a clinic with either a chiropractor, physiotherapist or acupuncturist). And often times people who came to see us leave us feeling uncertain on whether we actually helped them out with their problem or not due to their lack of feedback.
This last couple of days at the clinic, I have heard and received quite...
...a few positive accolades from both co-workers and clients alike. It makes me feel good and way more confident to hear how amazed and pleased the person I have on my table with the outcome of their treatment.
Since last night I have had three clients who got up from my table and walked out of my treatment room feeling revamped; the nagging pain that brought them to my table was no longer pestering them. There was even one client who has had quite a few massages before who walked out of our clinic really happy and praising me according to our clinic's receptionist. Apparently as a "veteran" massage recipient, her experience with me during our treatment session was the first time she felt relief in places that when a previous RMT worked on before left her writhing in pain, thus making her weary of every receiving deep tissue massage. Hearing that client say that sure stroked my ego real good, and it made me feel more special and confident at what I was doing.
I just want to say THANK YOU to all you wonderful people you who expressed your appreciation and enthusiasm at what I do, and what I have done to help you feel better.
One of the many things that gives me pleasure and reminds me why I chose this career field was seeing my clients leave my massage table with a smile on their faces and having a far different attitude from when they first hopped on it.
The treatment I gave her must've worked because I didn't see her book in a massage since that first time. Then last week I saw her name on my schedule list. She was my second to the last client Friday night. She told me she was fine up until she and her family went away on their trip over Christmas. Suffice to say I worked on the same problem areas we worked on last time, which gave her some bit of relief afterwards, but it wasn't up to par with her initial reaction to our first treatment.
I came in today not realizing she booked in a massage with me again. I heard from our receptionist that she was already shown to my treatment room because she can hardly walk or sit out in reception. I was worried, of course, because when I saw her last before the weekend she walked out of the clinic feeling fine and was really chatty with the ladies up front.
I walked in to the room and started asking her the usual questions. She explained to me what happened between Friday and today. I got right on fixing the problem, working her muscles hard and deep, hoping that I find the root of her problems. She only booked for a 60-minute treatment, and we were nearing the end of our allotted time when 'lo and behold, I found the sweet spot!
With less than 10 minutes before our appointment was up, we did some active movement treatment; muscle stripping and kneading of the area that was causing her so much pain and trouble. She was amazed (and a little light-headed too considering we did a lot of deep tissue and muscle work) and giddy with excitement that she was able to move again without feeling any stiffness or heck, she was doing the movement on her own and not wincing unlike when I was the one moving the limb for her.
We wrapped out our session, and I told her to take her time while I go grab her a glass of water to help with her lightheadedness. I advised her to take her time from jumping off my table and getting dressed because I don't want her having a spell and passing out.
Needless to say when she walked out of my treatment room she was walking upright and not hobbling like when she first walked in. She gave me a hug and she walked back to our reception area with a smile on her face...
