I'd love to know your thoughts about Laurent. Do you think he ever would have fallen in line with the diet for Irina? How much did Aro hate him?
Laurent's is a tale of delightful hubris.
He's a man determined to social climb who never realizes that turning into a vampire was the worst thing he can do for himself in this regard. He gets turned, tries to ingratiate with the powerful, and makes the mistake of picking the Romanians then never realizes he's useless to the Volturi.
He slinks further and further down into society until he's stuck with James and Victoria, who terrify him. He briefly gets out and shacks up with the Denali, but the diet is weird and awful and he's not a fan.
Then he's killed by teenage mutant ninja werewolves in Forks Washington, the middle of nowhere, because he was trying to do Bella Swan a favor by eating her before Victoria could torture her to death.
Would He Ever Have Fallen in Love with Irina?
Doesn't seem like it. Granted we only get that one conversation with Bella but he didn't seem to be missing her all that much and even makes reference to Tanya and not just Irina. That's not a guy who is... attached.
He also was clearly disenchanted with the diet and it seemed he was doing it mostly for protection from Victoria. Which didn't end up working out for him as she tracked him down and made him do her bidding anyway.
Basically, Laurent wasn't interested, and I think he already had a foot out the door.
How Much Did Aro Hate Him?
I don't think Aro did, he just didn't want the guy around. Laurent brought nothing to the table, was a useless social climber, and willing to hang out with people like Vlad and Stefan.
I don't think Laurent was ever much more than an afterthought as Aro kicked him out the door.
That's Laurent's trouble, he thinks he's much more important than he ever actually is and everyone takes constant advantage of this.
