Hmm for ship opinion bingo I have like two so: Edward x Emily, Edward x Toby?

I was worried that I was missing a lot of their canonical interactions in consideration for this post, so ofc i went through what others thought of them! don’t have strong ideas for an interaction name/tag, though i’m considering names w/themes of them both being helpers/rescuers or just simply naming it #best friends after that episode (lol).

i like it in very specific scenarios that only exist in my head

this is a duo that i think canon doesn’t do justice much and i’m quite bitter abt it! i would love to see them in a Henry’s Hero type of episode where they foil each other’s attitudes when it comes to helping and caring for others! more romantically though, i think they have the potential to also be very sweet (though i didn’t think sufficient enough to mark that on the board). like, i find the dream sequence in Emily’s Best Friend stupid, but it reminds me that they can both be so dorky? also, i want to see them blab to each other (emily abt factoids/subjects (ex. A Blooming Mess), edward abt stories/legends/sayings (ex. Haunted Henry, Happy Ever After, Scaredy Engines, Thomas and the Rainbow, and many other instances!)).

again, because they’ve shared similar roles in relation to others (being the level-headed advisor or helper), with very different attitudes abt it, it’s so intriguing!! there’s no way i can’t imagine emily looking to edward and being at the very least curious abt how he handles his work. i also can’t help but think of how they both seem to dote on/care abt Thomas (and perhaps, also keep Gordon in check) in particular, so maybe that’s one common aspect that can bring them closer?

ngl i’m a little surprised that this one’s more of a rarepair! if i had to give them an umbrella interaction tag (ex. #togetherness), id feel bad for referring to it as #cows… maybe something along the lines of “oldies but goldies”? please tell me if im missing canonical interactions between them, i think i am.

oh my god the amount of potential??? on a superficial level, they appear to fill the same sort of archetype— they’re older, wiser, underestimated & overlooked, etc; but notice the ways in which they react to situations or carry themselves like toby’s lesser tolerance and care abt the big engines & sitting back when tensions rise between his shedmates at ffarquhar vs edward being initially very hurt and bothered over them while helping them & trying to see the best in everyone… i think they’d be really cool foils and i wish this was expanded upon more by the show?

i rarely say this but they’re like the ultimate porch grandpas. by that weird term, i mean they’re the kind of folk that sit around and watch shenanigans unfold from their fellow neighbors from afar (figuratively). they should’ve gossiped, they should’ve talked abt their mutual peers (ex. heck— they both know philip!), they should’ve been more prominent of a duo?? idk if their respective jobs are why they don’t seem to interact as often but it’s a darn shame either way.

Ship that is unpopular but you still like: 💘

(Probably gonna be called “heteronormative” for these two, but honestly, I think these need to be said- I really like most Emily ships bc she seems to be flexible & supportive most of the time w/other engines, or it’s a rescue ship and I’m utterly soft for it.)

I’ve greatly considered EdwardxEmily bc they’re both derived from old classes, & I think they could be really interesting to look at since many ppl say they have similar traits- yet, their demeanors & ways of aiding others and giving advice could not be more different (foil foil foil)! They do radiate positive vibes a lot of the time (if we are to tone down Emily’s bossiness a bit during the HiT era).. but along w/the ol’ likexlike aspect of this ship, I think they could challenge each other (I mean that affectionately).

And, HenryxEmily, bc it’s another hurt/comfort ship that I had considered ever since I was a kid- got some similar vibes to my OTP, but a bit more mild. Besides feeling nostalgic for What's the Matter with Henry?, I really think Emily fulfills the role of balancing out Henry’s worrisome flaws & being supportive of him. Henry, in turn, may balance out her more agressive flaws and frustrations, keeping her grounded so that she doesn’t get too carried away in trying to be right or self-centered.
