New York Aritst, eej, Releases Her New Folk-Pop Single “oh haha”

The rising Brooklyn-based indie folk artist, eej, stands with empathy and love within her music. She hopes to share her experiences with self-reflection and self-delusion through poetry and harmony. “I stand for empathy,” she says. “This world is nothing without it, and I believe it is the key to human experience and true connection, which is what I try to convey through my art.”

eej just released her newest single, “oh haha.” This acoustic folk and pop song has a soft and inviting sensibility to it. The listener is welcome to feel the emotions alongside eej. 

The acoustic strumming with vocals similar to Lana Del Rey and a bit of Halsey is completely hypnotic and captivating. The addition of the piano later in the song is symbolic of change and roundedness. Musically speaking, it’s light, airy, and emotive. Lyrically, it’s rife with a deep and heavy meaning. It’s a breakup song that looks back and reflects on the behaviors that she realized she put up with. Only after the relationship was over was she able to see clearly the toxicity she brushed away.

“I originally wrote the song on a loop-pedal (I use the loop to write a lot), and it was just a never ending improvisational cry along the same chords,” she shares. “Then I arranged it in Logic, and quickly realized it was missing something to evoke the intimacy of the lyrics, so I picked up an acoustic guitar. My partner is a wonderful guitar player, so he helped me translate the produced song out of the box and into this really gentle and atmospheric build of emotion.”
