(Very important to know /j)
I have heard of it but I have never seen it !
How about urban fantasy?
Yay! So, a bit of context on this one is that it's "interactive fiction" which is in the same vein as visual novels and Choose Your Own Adventure novels, branching narratives with different paths the reader chooses to take, I find them really fun to write. But uh, I'll just put the basic blurb here rq.
"You are a mage. A dying breed in a world of cybernetics and megalopolises that slowly chokes out the natural world needed to fuel your magic. Now to be fair, you can hardly be called an expert or even a 'good mage'; you're broke and magic schools are expensive. To be more accurate, you're a delivery driver who happens to be able to do magic, and who handles the more dangerous materials that are required for spell work. "
So that's the character premise, shenanigans ensue, etc. Anyways! For the actual snippet, I wrote 2 choices.
With the creature gone, and the order done, I slide down the wall and slump onto the ground, my head against the cold drywall as I stare up at the ceiling. I feel…
1. Resigned
I've resigned myself to the idea of magic and my role in it. Just another pawn on the board, a piece to be moved, controlled and discarded when necessary. It was the way of the world. Whether it's magic, the corporate hellworld, just existing. I've never felt like more than an ant that the rich look down on from their monolithic skyscrapers that rise above the smog and the grime. A runner in a dying industry, waning in tandem with the natural world it needs to survive. This resignation is a common attitude, not just towards magic, but to the world as a whole, nobody could blame me for it, magic has grown into a twisted, ugly thing over the centuries, greedy and megalomaniacal mages turned to dictators, tyrants, and the like that gave all mages a bad name. Most people only feel resentment towards magic now, happy to let it rot and die out. Unfortunately for me, it's not quite dead yet.
2. Relieved
I've never been a big fan of dealing with mages, they're irritable, exhausting, and they never tip well for my troubles. So I'm relieved that this whole disaster of an afternoon is mostly over with. My own magic was unpredictable, to say the least. More so than other untrained mages even. I'm less “closely entwined” with magic, and more like an estranged child. With a yearly 20 credits on my birthday being traded out for unpredictable magical outbursts. Sure, I have magic, but controlling and understanding is a whole other ball game. One that I don't want to play. I'm mostly hoping against everything that this is my last order of the day, and I can finally go back home.

I made a doodle during my Aquatic Ecology class and thought of you, so I made it into a digital design for ya!
