okay so the sleep token lore barely has a canon so thus no interpretation of it is technically right or wrong, but I think about it Often and dont see a whole lot of people investigating the things ive fixated on. granted, I haven't delved too deep into prevailing theory and fanon because ive been too busy ruminating on my own, so hi! im externalizing my thoughts, disclaimer disclaimer nothing is personal or targeted, I dont think anyone is wrong or dumb if they dont think what I think, I am just tired of thinking what I think alone, wahoo!

moving on, I personally think there have to be at least 3 parties central to the story rather than just 2. Vessel, Sleep, and a secret third thing. we could play the pronoun game about Sleep all day but the reason I lean into the established He as a way of interpreting Him is because I find the way Vessel has communicated Sleep and the way Sleep demonstrates claim and power as distinctly paternalistic.

so then that begs the question, ✨️who is she?✨️ she/her that is mentioned in Nazareth and Alkaline among other works? thats our secret third thing! ive been calling her The Preistess because i've headcanoned she was Sleep's first ever vessel from an era thousands of years ago when highly localized religious cults were more commonplace. cuz like Jericho, "till I wake I dine on old encounters" implies a) there were other vessels before our current masked bunch and b) they're still in there and not like inanimate. dead/living is harder to articulate, but like there are theoretically several someones seemingly trapped in Sleep's personal moon pocket dimension situation that can no longer interface with the real world in the way the current vessels can.

another reason I think a 3rd voice/party fills our the story a bit better is because I personally dislike when gods feel material or human, and a lot of the she/her mentions feel like very human things of grief, lust, yearning, performance, not the kind of shit I fuck with being on a gods agenda in my post poppy war trilogy, burning kingdoms trilogy, dimension 20 fantasy high molded mindset. Sleep is concerned with matters that amount to amassing worship, all that nasty wet human shit is like reality TV for Him. so instead we get this agonizing dynamic of Vessel and the Priestess desperate to sway the other to their side and be seen and heard in a way no one else can understand, but opposed in their objectives and strategies until like TMBTE era because also The Preistess wants to kill Sleep. killing gods is notoriously difficult but He wont let her die so why not test her luck? but yeah I was interested in filling out why Vessel in universe would keep making this bad choice and this feels more grounded than the Eden theory ive seen floating around, cuz like nah, why fridge the abstraction of purity in the second EP when you could have some feral bitch that wears the God's blood you know? cuz girlhood is a spectrum and-
