Disney Branded Television has given a formal pilot green light to Eerie Prep, based on the Eerie Elementary children’s books by Jack Chabert, a pen name for The Last Kids On Earth author Max Brallier. The project, for Disney+ and Disney Channel, is changing things up from the books, which follow the adventures of Sam Graves, a boy in third grade. In the TV adaptation, Sam Graves is a girl played by Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey star Madalen Mills who is older as the setting has been changed from an elementary to a prep school.

The main cast of the pilot, written by David H. Steinberg and Keetgi Kogan, directed by Eric Dean Seaton and showrun by M. Raven Metzner, also includes Niko Ceci (I Woke a Vampire), Charlie Ellis, Madison Rojas, Michaela Russell and Alex Bar, with Hanna Huffman and Felicia Day guest starring.

In Eerie Prep (aka Eerie Academy), when her sister vanishes from the prestigious Eerie Prep, Sam Graves (Mills) assembles a team of uniquely skilled students to uncover the truth behind a series of strange, supernatural occurrences—and to confront whoever, or whatever, is behind the disappearance.

"Eerie Elementary", Jack Chabert (Book 4, 6 - 10)

Я все-таки прочитал целиком так понравившуюся мне серию Eerie Elementary (в русском переводе - "Школа Жуткинса"), пусть мне и пришлось читать оставшиеся книги на английском языке. Ссылки на предыдущие посты - первые три книги и пятая книга, которую я прочитал вне очереди. Тут продолжились злоключения школьного дежурного Сэма и его верных друзей, а также их противостояние живой школе, в которую вселился злой дух ее основателя Орсона Жуткинса.

Надо сказать, что автор удивительно изобретателен и мог бы накатать еще десяток-другой подобных книжечек... но он решил остановиться на десяти. Сэм и его друзья и боролись с огромным вулканом на научной ярмарке, и познакомились с дальним родственником Жуткинса, и защищали от сноса развалившуюся школу, и боролись против оживших рисунков, и однажды даже чуть не лишились звания дежурных! Ну и конечно, последняя десятая книга была гранд-финалом, да еще и в хэллоуино-подобный праздник.

Единственное, что сильно омрачило мне чтение дальнейших книг, это смена художника. Акварельные черно-белые иллюстрации были для меня неотделимой и важной частью "Школы Жуткинса", но с определенной книги они поменяли художника, который пытался подражать старому и сохранять его привычный стиль. То ли новый художник оказался паршивым, а старый талантливее, то ли старый художник использовал реальные материалы, а новый полагался на цифру... В общем, даже близко не то. Увы.

Но книжки потрясающие. Как я уже писал, очень простенькие, для начальной школы, не то, чтобы прям ужастики, но зато тут много переживательного экшна. Хочу экранизацию! И первого художника.

"Морозный ужас!", Джек Чеберт

Когда-то я с большим удовольствием прочитал первые три книги серии "Школа Жуткинса", но продолжения найти в свободном доступе не мог, даже на английском. Но тут мне повезло - и я наткнулся на пятую книгу "Морозный ужас!" Правда, четвертую книгу пришлось пропустить, но они не то, чтобы прямо сильно связаны друг с другом. На этот раз главным героям - Сэму, Люси и Антонио - пришлось столкнуться с замороженной школой, а сам Орсон Жуткинс должен был восстать из мертвых, если температура упадет до нужных градусов. Текст по-прежнему простой и детский, но экшновый и увлекательный, черно-белые акварельные картинки по-прежнему приятные. Прямо хочется добраться до всех частей, особенно до пропущенной четвертой. Потому что это чертовски хорошие понарошковые ужастики для младшеклассников!
