BREAKING: Massive U.S. State Launches Historic Lawsuit to STOP Trump. Support?
If Congressional Republicans won’t step up to impeach Trump, states will do what they can to stop the tyrant dead in his tracks. In a bold move, the state of New York filed a lawsuit to stop Trump’s assault on the environment.
You may remember that Trump signed an executive order last week undoing many of the environmental policies former President Obama put in place. Trump’s order specifically rolled back energy efficiency standards meant to help fight climate change.
Well, New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has had enough of Trump’s attacks on the environment. He realizes that Trump’s elimination of environmental regulations puts his state and other states at risk.
In response to Trump’s attacks, Schneiderman filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration for delaying the energy efficiency standards. Schneiderman vows to use all his power as the New York Attorney General to fight Trump.
A statement released by the NY Attorney General’s office reads:
“Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman, leading a state and municipal coalition, today announced that he is commencing legal action against the Trump Administration for violating federal law by delaying energy efficiency standards for several common consumer and commercial products – such as ceiling fans, portable air conditioners, walk-in coolers and freezers, commercial boilers, and more.”
Trump’s order blocks standards that reduce pollution and provide energy savings. Schneiderman sees this as a threat to consumers and public health.
Schneiderman said, “Energy efficiency standards are vital to public health, our environment, and consumers. This is yet another example of how the Trump administration’s polluter-first energy policy has real and harmful impacts on the public health, environment – and pocketbooks – of New Yorkers.”
Schneiderman says the Trump administration violates the federal Energy Policy and Conservation Act (EPCA) and Administrative Procedures Act (“APA”). He states specifically that the delay of energy standards for ceiling fans, walk-in freezers, portable air conditioners, power supplies, and similar equipment is a violation of federal law.
Other states are joining with Schneiderman on the lawsuit regarding efficiency standards. The coalition includes California, Illinois, Massachusetts, Oregon, Maine, Connecticut, Washington, Pennsylvania, and Vermont.
The suit says Trump’s refusal to implement the regulations violates the EPCA’s stipulations about setting deadline requirements. The Trump Administration also violated the APA when if refused to ask for public feedback about its plans.
The coalition is giving the Trump administration 60 days to reinstate the regulations. They’re also seeking a court order to implement the regulations immediately.
These states are going to court to stop Trump’s threat to the environment and public health. It’s one of many many such suits by the states to resist the Trump agenda.
Trump seems to think that he can get away with anything. He tried to dismantle Obama’s climate change policies, and broke federal law to do it.
Trump wants to help companies pollute the environment to save money. His policies will cause untold harm to public health and the ecosystem.
The states aren’t going to let Trump get away with his crimes. Please share this story on Facebook if you stand with the efforts of Schneiderman and the states.
