they had gotten comfortable here, and effie could finally let herself relax a bit, fall into a routine. no one came out here, they felt like they were far enough in the middle of nowhere that their parents wouldn’t find them, were careful about how often they were seen in public. for a few weeks, they lived in peace, basked in the glory of being together, living together, making this little cabin a home. it was a dream come true. effie was happy, and being here just solidified that her parents were wrong. that she didn’t want to be with archer because it was the rebellious thing to do. she wanted to be with him because she truly loved him.
effie jolted awake one night though, to what sounded like a car speeding up to the house. she sat up quickly, arm reaching out to shake archer awake. ‘archer,’ her voice sounded pitiful, already scared because even if this wasn’t their parents, anyone coming way out here this late in the night was not a good thing. ‘archer someone’s outside.’ and that was confirmed by the slamming of car doors and muffled voices from outside.
