“Hhhhohmygosh—”
“M-Miriam—”
“I’m going to be late…!”
“B-But, it’s—”
“Monsieur Dedan will string me up by my necktie—”
“Miriam…!”
10550 paused in her franticness, nearly falling over whilst trying to pull on one of her boots. Effie stared over at her, attention broken from the book she’d been reading at the kitchen table.
“…You’re— i-it’s, uh…Saturday. Your Saturday off.”
The Elsen near the door just sort of stood there for a minute. “…Saturday…?” Her roommate nodded. Miriam facepalmed. Sharing an apartment with someone was certainly nice, but she’d become so strict and precise about commuting that there were times where she happened to go a bit overboard. With a sigh, she trudged over to the table and sat down in the adjacent chair to the other’s.
“Hhh…I apologize. I guess I’m still not used to using the rail system to get to work…”
Effie gave her a light smile. “Y-You’ll get used to it, the more you use it…u-uh…but, since you’re up, would you like to go to the library with me, today?” Her expression visibly brightened. “I wanted to see if they have the next book in this series - I-I’m almost finished with this one…!”
Her smile was infectious, and the metal extraction manager couldn’t help but find herself giving one of her own. Truth be told, Effie had shown her a lot about Bismark life. Perhaps it was in exchange for Miriam showing her how to survive working in Zone 1.
“I’d love to. Just, uh…” She folded her arms, resting her head in them. “…Wake me up in about…ten minutes…?”
