I think the egglore was beautiful and that it deserves an open ending because a story like that cannot have a "real" ending. The Egg continously comes back throughout the years, it's a weird cosmic entity thing. That's the whole point, though. The stories that come with it are left open ended because no one ACTUALLY knows how to get rid of it. Just bid their time and slow it.

Because maybe they did seal off The Egg once and for all. Or maybe they didn't! And that's the beauty of it.
