What does eGranary mean for The Island and its 120 CX1 network. Well basically if we keep the same configuration the island can hold 480 computing blades and 480 other storage blades.

That can be served over WLAN which covers most of The Island. And if even a third of it is in webpages that we can cache then we will have invented the on demand internet. Which consists of cached pages updated in real time and served as a local resource over WLAN or LAN.

eGranary can provide us with a leaner internet as researchers and students tend to research the same resources often now we can both propose them or cache them as they are accessed. It is not all of the internet, it is the internet our users use.

And we are betting that it is a faster internet as well for resources that have been cached.

So CX1 can serve that function, be the repository of the internet resources that we use.

Why eGranary, well it's terrabytes of content the CX1 is capable of holding distributed by WLAN and but it doesn't stop there. As a part of eGranary development we want now to cache your most accessed sites off network. Which means that the user can talk to the cache as long as he is not using a live function. It's that much less cost off bandwidth.

What can be the content well anything you want really and your content too. If you think of a campus as a tool to disseminate knowledge eGranary can serve all of your most used resources without pumping on your internet bandwidth. 

If you have a college of engineering with a library that is digitized it can serve that library across your campus, on any WiFi device and from anywhere.

Here’s a possible configuration

It’s 64TB of content that you are serving over WLAN perhaps half of which are sites that are accessed daily by your whole campus. eGranary can cache them update them in real time serve them and leave your internet bandwidth alone.

The 4 computing blades also mean that you are going to be able to run an ensemble of lean applications over WLAN. It maximizes its use.

Hexagram 30, Luminosity or Radiance

FITLETWIDE Initiative, it is an initiative same as DI because it requires its own organization. FITLETWIDE is like for CX64000 or Nexus an extention of Fitlets as a network.

This network is a low energy network, which requires fewer resources. A couple of solar pannels can bring both electricity and computing to parts of the world where they are scarce.

FITLETWIDE Initiative aims at equipping 6M village schools. And they come with the 6TO of educational content of eGranary.

And so CX64000 becomes an objective. CX64000 is 64 000 first grade universities and research centers linked in a Cray CX1 network. The aim is CX128K with double the participants but we are not there yet.

CX64000 is its own network and has its own tools which allow you to search for content, use applications and disseminate content.

That way CX1 at The Island with 12 clusters of 10 machines can tap into something greater than itself. A research network that is worldwide.

It is different than WiderNet, smaller and more able at the source. We want those 64 000 partners to actually put the stuff they are researching in there and make it searchable using network wide P2P.

It is not the internet, it is a closed research network with user id’s mailboxes and collaborative tools.

And yes it comes with P2P computing out of the box and eGranary WLAN capacity.

Well basically its the same cost cutting formula on a bigger scale. And now we can approach tens of thousands of universities and educative institutions anywhere in the world.

Including in the developed world. 

And yes we are extending its capacity from LAN to WLAN. It’s much more content available from anywhere.

The list of educative tools and resources that can be developed is endless depending of how you want it. One thing it is is modular.
