Please go off on one about LOZ.
YEZ, THANK YOU!!!! It’ll mostly be self-insert things....maybe some OC mentions at the end? We will see...
I continuously think about Ethel in BotW. What’s it like to lose the world you once knew? Your parents are gone, and you weren’t there. For the longest time, you thought your friends were gone, too; one of them shows up. He doesn’t remember you. You feel your heart break.
“What happened to your eyes?” He asks quietly. “I don’t know what you mean,” Ethel responds, just as quiet. “They used to be green. They look...purple now.” They know. They know, and it scares them. Their heart stutters in their chest, uncertain and worried. “...I’ll cook food tonight,” they mutter, avoiding answers. Link lets them.
Memories of meeting the Gerudo still haunt them. “It’s said that purple eyes show a most passionate lover~!” It’s only haunting because they sometimes dream of a big man. Of the desert. Of feeling loved and cherished...and of looking into the mirror, into brilliant purple eyes.
Purple eyes with gold flecks... What does it even mean? What happened to their green eyes? It scares them sometimes. Link, to his credit, just assures them that they’re pretty. Ethel just wishes it’d chase the anxiety away, though.
Or maybe we could look at the tragic tale of Evadne? The deity who stood on the same grounds with the likes of Majora and Fierce Deity. A ruling set...and the ones who would later abandon them. Even as Majora would be summoned permanently into a mask. Fierce Deity accepting his own role to become a mask...so that were Majora to appear again, so might he. To stop this evil that plagued the land.
But he left behind a lover...and their heart broke at being the last one of the trio to continue to live in their own body.
Of course, Evadne still persists. Even when the land turned on them, instead supporting the Giants... They remain. Quiet and waiting. Remembering.
I still think about this fic snippet every day. (It’s at the bottom of the linked post, heyo.)
Love does not always triumph over all. Sometimes, love must be sacrificed. They know it, ohh... Do they know it. But a greedy, lonely part of them just wants to see him again. To hold him. To hear his voice...one last time.
(Actually... I wonder about the sick woman, too. The woman that started the legacy of Ethel, Aquaria, etc. Left behind while the land that became Skyloft ascended... In retrospect, I wonder what her connection to the Hero even was? What did she mean to him, if anything? What was their story, before it became a twisted tangle of vines? Of hope and loss, all at once?)
.....But perhaps the most tragic thing of all? Is that goddesses don’t care. And the cycle will continue.
But what if there was a way to stop it...?
Honestly- depending on how BotW 2 goes- the ship with Ganondorf could be completely self indulgent....but my, doesn’t he always look so, so handsome~? :3c
And Zora’s Domain has always felt like home...so what’s a Zoraen hand to hold, at the end of it? Whether it’s enemies to lovers (Princess Ruto) or friends to lovers (Prince Sidon), there’s no doubt that the love of a Hylian and a Zoraen shines like no other.
And, in some timelines, you might talk with a chipper captain of the guard, who is said to have been one of the few to love a Hylian so openly since Mipha... By how they look at each other, you know it to be true. They couldn’t hide their affections if they tried.
In another world- oh, these timelines are so plentiful, aren’t they?- they pine for someone half-focused. Not on the task at hand, oh no. He’s dedicated in full to that...but to them. But they cannot help yet to fall for him anyways. And he cannot resist them...and the glimmer of something in dark green eyes. (Oh, Astor, you will be taken care of in these gentle, consuming arms...even if the world takes you away, she will remember. And she will forgive.)
