So I appear to be on a spree of fixing other people’s shit (on the bench next, a malfunctioning Bat Fuzz by Jaques - don’t feel bad if you never heard of it).

Last night I fixed up an EHx Big Muff that had been accidentally fed 24V AC.  How does one do that exactly?  Simple - there’s a 24VAC wallwort hanging around the keyboard area of the jam space that happens to have the correct connector (1/8″ TS aka mono headphone jack) for the Muff, nature (and power jacks apparently) abhor a vacuum so male gets inserted into female and boom (or to not be overly melodramatic about it; just a really bad smell).

I am surprised it wasn’t more damaged but when I opened it up there was a limited area of scorching.  At first I thought a few bits may be damaged (2 resistors, an electro and a ceramic disc), but it turns out that one 100Ohm 1/4 watt carbon resistor took it all for the team (good going little buddy!).  Checked a V9 schem to be sure, found a nearly identical (1/2 W vs 1/4) resistor I had salvaged out of something (zero cost part) and now it works again.  I nearly buggered a trace removing the burnt resistor (the burning part softened it up, I tell myself) but managed to save it.  Otherwise I would have had to jumper it over to the next pad in the circuit. I hate old PCBs

I was also able to remove all the soot with 99% isopropyl alcohol, so it doesn’t look like it’s a wreck, though there is a burn mark under where the old resistor was where the actual PCB was melted a tad (the bad smell).  The replacement resistor, being larger, covers most of it so it don’t look so bad.  Sorry, totallty forgot to take an after pic and too lazy to open it up again.
