“Do you want to listen to some—”
“Hey, Harz, can I plug my phone—”
Leo exchanged a glance with Finn, and he smiled wryly. “‘kay.”
He plugged the cable lying between them into his phone, and scrolled through his playlists. He clicked on one of them, hit the shuffle button, and settled comfortably into the passenger’s seat as a familiar guitar instrumental started blasting through the speakers.
Staring down at the too bright screen, he sighed, and closed his eyes, his head bowed down. Breathe in, and out. In, and out.
He heard a soft sound coming from Finn, and he opened his eyes again, turning his head to the side. Finn looked into his eyes, then down at where his hands were resting on his lap. He seemed to hesitate, and then brought his gaze back to meet Leo’s, his usual bright brown eyes now subdued.
“Do you… Do you want to talk about it? We can, if you want,” he placed his hand atop the center console, and Leo longed to cover it with his, he really did. But he didn’t.
He broke eye contact, staring back down at his hands for a long moment. He shifted them, slotting his freezing palms under his thighs, and it took all his willpower to not look at Finn, who had sucked in a deep breath, his hand recoiling.
“Maybe—” Leo’s voice cracked. He swallowed, and whispered, “Maybe tomorrow, okay?”
Finn’s breathing was shaky, but he managed to force out a strained, “Yeah, okay.”
He turned back to face the front, and Leo spared a glance at him from the corner of his eyes. He was gripping the steering wheel with both hands, his knuckles white, and his fringe covered his face as he looked down at his lap for a few moments.
Leo’s heart twisted. He wanted to hold Finn in his arms. He wanted it more than anything in the world.
His eyes snapped back down as Finn turned to look at him, and the older boy sighed and started the car.
Why do I pull you close, and then ask you for space?
If all it is is eight letters, why is it so hard to say?

The Fandom Funundrum
I know this might come as a shock but.
It is possible.
To feel.
More than one emotion.
At the same time.
For example, you might say 'Oh blog that I have followed for an indeterminate amount of time, why are you so happy about particular recent events when there are also many other recent events that are so horrible, and bad, and sad, and not happy in the world? Why blog, why?'
And I might say 'I, an inanimate blog, am attached to a somewhat animate person, and that person is capable of feeling the full spectrum of human emotion and expressing these emotions in a myriad of ways (but not in the milk duct way), because they have had a long and varied life filled with the most complex emotions and experiences known to humankindness (a word which here means aliens are also welcome here, and that humans can be kind if aliens and other monsters are also kind in return).'
Perhaps, the inanimate blog has been a blog long enough to archive these different feelings that can be contained in one body (of work and life) and knows how to spell words like 'divide' and 'conquer' and 'bittersweet melancholia'.
Maybe the somewhat animate person knows the emotion 'elatasad' (a word which here means the almost animate heart has felt so much sadness at very many times, that it now holds on to the brief moments of happiness when they do come, even though they understand that even hearts have strings that can be pulled).
The inanimate blog may post words like the following that might just be words, but can also be a way of living in a world that is hard to exist in.
"At times the world may seem an unfriendly place, but believe that there is much more good in it than bad. All you have to do is look hard enough. And what might seem to be a series of unfortunate events may in fact be the first steps of a journey."
