I played a game in my adult English conversation class tonight where the five of us made sentences using the pattern: "If I ___(A)____, I would ___(B)____." And the next person would make a sort of connecting sentence like "If I (B), I would (C)." I just intended it to be an interesting sentence-making game using a little imagination, but the women in the class decided to keep all the sentences made as a continuous story, that slowly developed over an hour into an AMAZING improv session that I still remember perfectly: The first sentence was "If I was a rich man....", and from there we married, went to Las Vegas, lost all our money gambling, went back to Japan, worked until we could buy a lottery ticket, which we won and used to buy an airplane and fly to Hawaii, where we spent our days learning English, swimming, playing in the sun and eating lobster so much that we became a lobster seller and one day while fishing for lobster in Hawaii we caught a turtle which dragged us down to Ryugujo (an underwater city from Japanese folklore that's like Atlantis mixed with the Rip Van Winkle story), and in Ryugujo we played all day and all night with many many beautiful women and drank and drank and drank so much that we ended up blacking out, at which point we had a lovely dream about playing in fields of flowers before waking up in a mysterious garden which we decided to forgoe exploring because we needed to get back to our home in Hawaii but when we got there we found that we didn't recognize anyone (because we'd outlived the people we knew) and so we returned to Japan where we met a new young foreign girl named Catherine who we fell for because of our fond memories of Hawaii and we married Catherine and had a baby boy whose name was Sam, but in a cruel twist of fate Sam turned out to not be our child and Catherine had been cheating on us, so we divorced her and went on a journey through Japan, shunning the foreign culture that we associated with out heartbreak, and we went on a date with a lovely Japanese girl named Sakura who we lived with every day dressed in our kimonos, and we studied calligraphy and became so good at it that we sold our calligraphy, made a lot of money, became famous, and went on TV for an interview but as chance would have it our FIRST WIFE who we thought must have died after we went to Ryugujo saw us on TV and she came to try to live with us again because we'd never divorced her in the first place, but deciding that we were too much in love with our new girlfriend Sakura we ran away with Sakura to France in an attempt to escape our first wife, and because our heart yearned for travel and internationalism but once in France we missed Japan too so we opened up a Japanese restaurant that ended up being such a hit that it got 3 Michelin Stars and we were able to turn it into a worldwide chain, and using the money from that combined with our remaining money from calligraphy, we were able to travel the world with Sakura and be happy for the rest of our life!! It was quite the amazing adventure.
Wooo! I've finished my last lesson!
I officially no longer work for PKC!
The ceiling in my "classroom" is leaking (again. It's a known issue.), so we had to cancel lessons.
Does that mean I get to go home early?
Absolutely not.
So, the parent company of the company that I work for (eikaiwa) also has another child company that does computer classes. To save rent, some of the eikaiwas share a classroom with the computer school.
Which would be fine, but the computer school teachers do not fucking LEAVE.
I am sitting here waiting for this woman to VACATE THE FUCKING PREMISES.
Her classes ended at 1 pm, my classes start at 5:00 pm, and it is currently 4 pm.
I got in trouble because I overslept and was late for a zoom meeting.
Keep in mind that I'm basically an English tutor. My regular work day doesn't start until 4:30 pm and the zoom meeting was scheduled for noon.
I usually don't even get out of bed until 11:30, but my manager is suddenly expecting me to get up at 10:30, go to work, sit through a 3 hour meeting, have a lunch break, and then do my regular work until 8:30.
I do not get paid enough for that. (Because of the lowered value of the Japanese Yen, I currently make around $1,700 a month.)
It's time to be told everything I did wrong during the lesson observation that was done on the day that I was sick and extremely tired.
Whoa fucking Nellie… how bad is NOVA losing money that they think *this* is the play?

i can’t tell if this is including cancellations by students or what? When i was teaching, we couldn’t cancel our own lessons except by not being there. So… like, if you’re sick a day that’ll run you 52k yen?! Fuck me sideways…
