𝐀/𝐍: i’m so sorry i put this one off for so long </3… i have trouble writing for mys ein in a romantic light because he’s… you know… insane. but then i realized this could be a fun experiment to see how broad my writing skills are. hopefully this isn’t too bad lololll i'm not sure how i feel about it

He said he’d be back.

You stare at the fireplace, your arms wrapped tightly around your waist, a less-than-effective method of self comfort. Anxiety has long since riddled your body, leaving your muscles tense and a pit in your stomach you can’t shake. Ein was supposed to be back three days ago, but here you are. Alone. Your boyfriend nowhere in sight.

He hasn’t answered your worried texts. Your insistent calls. You’ve been right here in this cabin he left you in a couple of weeks ago, toughing out the harsh winter all alone instead of by your lover’s side.

Why would he take you on a winter vacation in the middle of the woods, just to leave you stranded here, expecting you to just follow what he says? He’s done this before, you suppose. And to his credit, you’ve been too head over heels to question his suspicious behavior.

When he disappears like this, he always comes back with new scars but no explanations. You’ve shouted at him to explain himself, to tell you where he’s been and why he didn’t contact you. But every time, he somehow manages to subdue your worries, changing the subject before you can even realize you’re being placated.

What if he got seriously injured this time? Or worse?

What if he never comes back for you?

A loud slam of the front door nearly sends you toppling over the bed, your eyes wide and heartbeat erratic. You’re miles away from any neighbor in this cabin, so an intruder is unlikely. Is the wind super strong today? Or… could it be a wild animal?

You stay still, flinching when the sound of dragging footsteps and groaning reaches your ears. Human-like. Still (despite the fact you should run or hide), you stay quiet, staring like a deer in headlights as the bedroom door flings open.

A gasp leaves your lips as Ein stumbles into your room, his breathing haggard as he crumples to the floor. Blood is crusted on his knuckles and fingertips, deep bruises and reddened bandages covering the rest of him. You jump up to your feet, adrenaline overpowering the fear of the sudden jump scare as you stare at a man you’ve never met before in the doorway. He seems to have dragged Ein here, based on how your boyfriend can barely hold himself up on the floor, but the lack of true care is evident in his cold gaze and the way he just practically tossed Ein down.

“What happened? Who are you?!” Your voice trembles, footsteps hesitant as you kneel by Ein’s side. “What did you do to him?”

“I didn’t do anything; he’s the one who picked a fight he couldn’t win.”

“A fight he picked? With who?!”

The man shakes his head, raking his fingers through his grey-streaked brown hair and scoffing under his breath. He looks at you with a sense of pity, almost, though you can’t imagine why. “I patched him up enough; He won’t die.”

“What?”

He offers you nothing more, turning and walking away

“Hey!” you shout, but the footsteps only continue to recede.

The front door slams shut, an icy silence falling over the cabin save for Ein’s stuttered breathing and quiet, pained groans. You look down at him, shock stopping you from embracing him like you normally would.

“Ein?”

A pained whimper escapes through cracked, pale lips, as he manages to turn onto his side and look up at you. You’ve never seen him in such bad shape before, not even in high school when he…

“What did you do…?” you whisper, trembling fingers meeting his dried cuts and yellowed skin.

His grey eyes squint up at you, pride settling on his face as he clenches his jaw. No explanation comes. Not about his lack of communication. Nothing about where he’s been. His nostrils flare as you press down on his swollen cheek, flinching and knocking the back of his head on the floorboards.

“Fuck! What was that for?” he grits, canines baring as the less injured hand of his comes up to hold your wrist.

“For coming back like this after being back for weeks!” you shout, tears brimming in your eyes as you grip his shirt, the long sleeve ripped and dirty. His eyes widen at your anger, his eyebrows furrowing. “And the first thing you do is scold me! What the hell is your problem? Where have you been?”

He presses his lips together, grumbling a low warning of your name as he attempts to prop himself up on his elbows. You don’t let him, pinning him back onto the floor. A part of you regrets it when he lets out a pained whimper, but impatience fuels you to stand your ground.

“No! You left me here to worry like you’ve always done! You can’t just not answer me this time!” Your voice wavers, barely able to hold the resentment bubbling in your throat. “Who did you fight?! Was it that man?”

Ein stares at you. He’s angry, you can tell, but he’s too weak to overpower you. A few seconds pass—the moment seeming to stretch out longer than reality. You clench your fists, eyes tracing every wound that mars his skin. They’ll likely stay, leaving more scars than he already had before. 

“Please tell me…” You weakly mutter, not bothering to hold back your tears anymore as you slump over him.

“Dammit.” His face relaxes only a little, replaced by a look of what you think can be remorse. He hesitates, staring up at the ceiling while you wait with bated breath. “Aaron.”

“...What?” You close your eyes, swallowing and shaking your head. “The same Aaron from high school?”

He grunts a yes, and you open your eyes to stare at him in disbelief.

“You two fought so long ago. You never even told me why—Did you…” You pause, trying to connect the pieces. “Why were you even in contact with him? What were you doing?”

There’s that silence again.

“Ein!”

“I can’t tell you.”

You ball up your fists, teeth audibly snapping shut as you try to resist whacking him in his already battered state. “You can’t tell me.”

He takes a steadying breath, shaking his head as he continues to stare up at the ceiling with conflict swirling in his eyes. Those pretty, grey eyes. It makes you want to scream. 

“Baby, can you get me up on the bed? It hurts,” he rasps. In the next moment, his brows lift up as he slowly, pleadingly, looks up at you. “Please.”

You hesitate.

You really should let him suffer on the floor for a little longer and give him a taste of his own medicine. Let him writhe in his pain until he confesses everything he’s hidden from you for years now.

But your heart speaks first. And the blood seeping through the bandages on his arms is making your head spin more than the hidden truth. It looks like claw and bite marks underneath, like a wolf had a go with him and mauled him in the cold snow. Aaron, he said…? He couldn't have done this, right?

You grit your teeth, mustering the strength to hook your arms under his and hold him against you. The sight of him like this is frightening. He’s so tall, so strong, yet he got himself in a dangerous enough situation to end up this way, delivered half-dead on the floor by some stranger. If you had known where he was—if you were there—would it be any better? Or would it scare you more?

Ein shakes from the strain of sitting up, head slumping into the crook of your neck with labored breaths. His hand lands weakly on your back, possessively pulling you in as he breathes in the scent of your shampoo.

“You’ll tell me later?” you whisper unsteadily, fingers threading into the matted and bloody hair at the nape of his neck. “Promise.”

“...Yes.”

You’re sure he’s lying through his teeth once again, and later on, when he’s more able, he’ll find a way to deter your questioning and spin another web of lies that will seem too real for you to question. He’ll whisper sweet nothings to you until this turns into a foggy memory, too unimportant in the grand scheme of things to ever bring up again.

You both never had much, but didn't need to. The long working hours in retail, coming home to Ein already having the house set for you and vice versa was worth it. The two of you were a power couple.

You always loved that your boyfriend was a cosmetologist, you always got everything for free, on the condition he'd do everything himself.

You wanted your nails done? Why, he was already finishing up his courses. Your skin is breaking out? Lay down on his massage table. Need a wax? Don't worry he already has your favorite heating up.

So when you came to him excitedly showing him a Pinterest photo of a woman with dark purple ghost roots with the rest of the hair ombré from purple to white, he couldn't pass it up.

He started setting up his station. “You sure? I know how you are about your virgin hair?”

“Why? You don't think it'll look good?” You pouted, looking at him set up through the mirror. He chuckled. “No, I think you'd look amazing,” kissing your forehead he continued, “I just want to make sure this is not one of your impulsive behavior.”

“Trust me it isn't!”

KC served you a slice of your favorite cake. As you eat your cake you glance at KC. The truth was you know why you feel this way. You like Ein… why Ein.. He’s mean and pranks everyone but he’s Charming? He treats his golden ho right. You take a deep breath..

KC- yes?!?

"Fuck.."

His head was swimming.

Your bedroom was cold. Ein swore that his heavy breaths were puffing out into small white clouds. But each flash of your camera only made him feel hotter.

What would people say if they saw him as he is now? Hands tied behind his back and knees spread on icy tiles. Forced to pose for your own amusement.

It was pathetic.

It was hot.

*Click*

"Mmhh.." Faint noises escaped through his bloody, bitten lips. Each click of your phone made his body twitch towards the sound, like he was trying to lure you over. Begging you to finally touch him with his body.

Frosty fingers gripped his chin harshly. The Sudden contact had him jumping and arching into your touch. Your soft breaths tickled his ears as you whispered.

"I thought I told you.." Your hand moved to his ear, almost petting it as you positioned your mouth directly in front of it. "To smile, Ein."

"Sorr-mmm" saliva gathered in his throat, forcing him to swallow before he even tried to speak. "Auggck-.. You did, you did.." He nuzzles into your hold, short breaths interrupting his soft keens.

Ein's fangs slowly leave the little valleys they carved for themselves in his lips as he parts them to reveal a shaky smile. It's more of a grimace, really.

A nip to his ear was his reward. It damn near tipped him over the edge. How pathetic, he was barely being touched and yet it still made him shiver. God's, he was tearing up. It was.. so much. But it was so good.

Warm lips pressed to his red cheek-your lipstick surely leaving its mark on his flushed skin-before he was directed to look into the camera once more.

Tears finally left his eyes as he tried to keep his smile from falling. Slight moans made their way past his teeth as he stared at himself.

Disheveled hair, dried drool, fresh tears and flushed cheeks.

“Don't you look good, baby?” Irene, with the way you started leaving little nips down his neck he almost missed your words. But he knew had to answer, else you start from the beginning. Again.

“I augh-... I look goOD-!” Cold hands circled his shaft, pumping, rubbing. Crap. He’s totally gonna-

The hands left him.

Ein knew you were bad news. Disregarding the fact that you're in the Shadow Knights, something about you just.. makes him feel wrong. His body sounded the alarms whenever you were around, and even the sight of you would make his face red with embarrassment rage.

He already knew his day was going to be awful when the two of you crossed paths this morning. Your infuriatingly alluring eyes creased with a smirk as you rounded the corner to him. His back stiffened.

"What's wrong, doggy?" with your hands behind your back, you started to circle him. Each tap of your foot meeting the ground made his ears twitch against his own will, which you unfortunately caught.

"Twitchy twitchy.." you hummed, voice low and taunting. His heart beats faster every time you open your mouth and his face twists into a scowl before you can continue.

"Can't you tell when you're unwanted." He snarls, hunched over defensively. "Or are you just that dense?!"

"Woah oh, and the teeth come out! Did you miss your morning walk, Blue?" Seemingly unfazed by his posturing you continue to rile him up. Even going so far as to laugh at him! Sometimes , Ein wonders if he's even intimidating you at all. Maybe you're just stupid or something...

You know what, he's better than this. Ein doesn't have to stand there and listen to you belittle him. He can leave! He can totally leave! In fact, that's exactly what he's going to do!

A puff of air escapes his lips as he purposely relaxes his body. A flint of confusion passes over on your face at his new stance but it's quickly patched over with more haughtiness and just a pinch of interest.

"It's.." He bites his lower lip, giving up on his sentence before he readjust his bag straps and turns to leave. "Whatever."

A scoff sounds out behind him, and as he turns the corner he can just make out your annoyed mumbles.

"...Typical dog. Tch, running away with your tail between your legs.."

Ein's bag was on the floor. Biology homework was still floating in the air by the time he slammed your back against the wall.

Hot breath fanned across your nose and sharp claws came dangerously close to piercing your shoulders. Leaning above you was Ein, ears at attention and glowering.

"By Irene..! You just CAN'T keep your mouth shut!" Shaking with rage, you could practically see the steam puffing from his ears. But even as with his teeth bared and little pinpricks of blood welling up from your shoulders, all you did was grin a wickedly satisfied smile.

"Because you love to hear me talk, Blue." You laughed like you found this whole thing so pathetically intriguing. And he slammed your back into the locker doors once more.

"I'LL RIP YOU TO SHREDS."

Across the hallway, near the doors, three other werewolves stood watching. Dottie, Rylan, and Daniel looked at each other, then at you and Ein, then once more at each other.

Finally, after they had migrated a bit farther from the scene, Daniel spoke up.

"Should we, y'know.. Do something..?" He whispered as to not pique your attention. Dottie slung her head in his direction, in disbelief that he would even suggest a thing like that.

"And get between those two!?" Her yell was not so dramatic that it would alert anyone but their little trio, but was still dramatic enough to get her point across. "Are you crazy!?"

"But, Ein is.. taking it kinda far.. And [Name] is-"

Rylan cut in. "Don't worry about it." He placated, patting Daniel's shoulder. "It's best to just report it and not get involved." Rylan made a gesture like he would start walking away before he paused.

"Besides." He waved for the both of them to join as he actually started walking. "Ein's tail is wagging."

"What??"

"No way!"

Thankfully, the wolf trio had made it out of sight and out of hearing range or else Daniel and Dottie's exclamations would have certainly alerted the both of you.

Still, Dottie couldn't believe it! Lagging behind, she backed up a few steps and quickly turned her head to look at you and Ein once more. I mean, there's no way his is actually wagging-

In the early hours of the morning you’ve decided to follow your nose into the kitchen where the smell of coffee is most potent. You begin to wander in but the kitchen tiles are cold against your feet. You’re not usually one to linger in one area for too long, especially not in doorways, but today you don’t feel a need to cross the threshold. Why would you when the sight of your boyfriend in the kitchen is so much better?

Your gaze drags up Ein’s form, admiring the definition of his back and shoulders as he gingerly leans over the countertop. You’re about to call out to the boy when his tail suddenly sweeps across the floor, accompanied by a quiet grumble.

You’ve never known Ein to be a particularly patient person and you’ve gotten used to that - hence is the reason why you don’t linger in doorways. That’s not to say he loses his temper with you, you doubt he would ever be so brash as to take his frustrations out on you in a malicious way, but he does have a tendency to forget himself when he’s denied what he wants.

You’re about to step further into the kitchen when you catch the twitch of Ein’s ear. The boy turns abruptly and reveals a surprisingly frustrated look. You’re tempted to call it cute to further fluster the boy but you decide to hold back on your sweet nothings.

“Is something wrong?” You question oh so sweetly.

Ein is quick with the uptake of your tone, opting to shake his head and turn back to whatever he was doing before. It’s odd to see Ein so focused in the kitchen, especially in the early hours of the morning, so you can’t help but feel intrigued.

You don’t bother to hide your footsteps as you approach the boy. You’re about to wrap your arms around Ein’s waist when you suddenly find your view of the boy obstructed by his tail. “Hey! Rude, much?” You playfully pout as you gently push his tail aside. As you snake your hands around his waist you pull your chest against the boy’s back, tilting ever so slightly to get a better look at whatever has the boy so preoccupied.

On the counter are two cups of coffee. You reach out to take one for yourself but Ein’s is quick to stop you, almost a bit too quick as he holds you in place.

“Ein?”

“What?”

“Are one of those coffees for me?” You see the boy nod and thus, start to reach for a cup, but he stops you yet again. The action isn’t quite as amusing as the first time. “Can I have it?”

“Just wait.”

You sigh, releasing your grip around the boy with a quiet “okay”. He seems a bit hesitant, almost a bit unsure, but eventually takes one of the cups and hands it to you. Ein doesn’t meet your gaze but you smile at him as you take it anyway.

The coffee is made just how you like it.
