idk WHY it’s so satisfying to me to say “this story is like that story”, like it’s never profound and it doesn’t usually change the meaning of the text -- but. BUT. genly/estraven and nath/jack are ABSOLUTELY cut from the same cloth. like in the same way genly takes estraven’s simplicity for irony, nath mistakes all of jack’s attempts at kindness for mockery. i’m not extrapolating even a little bit, that’s their respective central conflicts, that miscommunication. they are DEVOTED and it seems untrustworthy, they’re hiding something, their motivations are so transparent that you think they can’t possibly be saying what they mean, they must be obfuscating, why are they so mysterious? yaaass tropes and archetypes and the like et cetera
every day i think about how perfectly, delicately constructed the jack reveal is in everything i never told you and feel like shrieking
