21st Century Construction Technology | EIPL Infra
The world is sailing in a computerized or mechanical ocean. All spheres of life are revolving around modern adaptations in 21st century. Then in such a fast paced life the construction technology has to be at par excellence with the world. This is the sector that provides shelter to the world and this sector has to sail in the ocean of latest technology.
1. Modern Construction Technology
The new construction technology is also known as Con Tech. It includes all the innovations and the new techniques that are adapted by the construction sector in this 21st century. Construction sector is rapidly adapting the new construction techniques which include the following.
1.1. Building Information Modelling
BIM stands for Building Information Modelling. As the name suggests BIM is a process of creating an intelligent 3D model and also enabling document management, coordination and stimulation during the entire lifecycle of a project. BIM helps to explore design options and create visuals to understand what the building will look like before it is even built. This model will then be used to design the documents for construction.
1.2. Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR and AR)
Virtual reality means something which cannot be touched but can be visualized through techniques of computer. It allows one to walkthrough the venture and inspect every minute detail even before the construction is begun.
Augmented Reality is to generate a 3D model of the project. With advance camera and sensor technology, AR combines the physical surroundings with computer generated information to present it in real time. AR and VR are immensely used in construction industry.
Use of drones at construction sites is one of the emerging technologies in construction. Drones conduct site surveys quickly and accurately. They have the ability to reach places, curves or heights which are hard to inspect by humans. They are also used to monitor progress on a job site and see the performance of the workers. Drones are cheaper than aerial imaging. They have high resolution cameras and can create 3D interactive topographical maps and models.
GFRG Panel is a technological advancement in construction industry. These energy efficient green building materials are gypsum boards reinforced with Glass Fibers. GFRG panels are fire and earthquake resistant. They are economical and easy to assemble. It is cost-effective and gives smooth finishing. 8-10 storeyed building can be constructed rapidly with GFRG panels.
3D printing or three dimensional printing is also known as Additive Manufacturing. It is a process that creates a physical object from a digital design. It is a computer controlled sequential layering of material in the form of liquid or powdered plastic, metal or cement and then fusing the layers together to create three dimensional shapes. Concrete is just squeezed out of a nozzle that is attached to a computer-programmed robotic arm. This arm is either stationary or moving along rails creating successive strips, layer upon layer which produces the desired design of the building.
