“Arin’s parents – all of those innocent people. dead for your precious research,” Mercenary says, words scathing and venomous. “What do you have to say for yourself?”
“It would be foolish to expect progress without some sort of sacrifice in exchange-”

In the midst of their tirade, their burlap hood slides off their head, and rainwater quickly soaks their hair.
“I thought you were different.” I frown. “That you- that you would be the one to change this shitty word. You were my- I trusted you. So that there wouldn’t be any more children who would have to walk down my path.”
I never enjoy it when Mercenary talks down about themself.
“You underestimate yourself,” I whisper, reaching out to trace the thin, pale scars that line their cheek. “Your lifestyle was thrust upon you, and you have done exceptionally well with what little you were given.”
Mercenary is always so warm, I think as they shiver against the cool touch of my hand.
“You are strong. Walk alongside me, and we will be unstoppable. Together, we can help humanity reach its greatest potential.”
“I…don’t…” An odd expression flits across their face as they lower their head, unable to finish the thought. I smile.
“A world without suffering. That’s what you want, is it not?”
“Don’t fucking touch me.”
When they look up, they are no longer the person I once knew. No longer my companion on moonless nights, nor the reluctant sibling of a girl forced to grow up far too quickly, nor are they the person I might have once called a friend.
They are cold steel and concentration, a dangerous mercenary with little to lose.
“White Mage,” they say, raising their weapons. “Well, the name hardly fits you now. Black Mage, then.”
Ah.
“I don’t intend to run. I’ll leave my mark on you yet.”
I’m also in a state of constantly shipping davehomu but that’s too rare to sustain itself

hmm well once I don’t like a pairing, That’s That and very little will ever make me like it. For ships I didn’t think I’d like at first, I’d say wm/merc lmao (you) and pyrrha/nora and cinderruby (emmy) and platonic ruby/neptune (from watching on the spot)

alright... my iphone chose “ishiki” by shiina ringo, it’s sultry and moody and most of the lyrics don’t make a lot of literal sense? but the line

is rather pleasing and I think it could be applied to lots of ships. tho since you asked me this question it’ll be wm/merc, the sad kind I’m addicted to even though it hurts a lot
