HEHEH MORE IRELAND HEADCANON AND LORE TIME!!! So in an earlier comic i explained that i have a headcanon that nations have some permanent scars tied to significant events in their history, but that they can at will choose to hide them from view of others as if they weren’t there at all. However the psychological impact of knowing they’re there and feeling them despite them being hidden remains, hence why Ireland almost never takes his gloves off. It’s another layer between him and the physical scars of his history.

The place where Ireland is in the second page is Arbour Hill Cemetery in Dublin, where 14 of the executed leader of the 1916 rising against British rule in Ireland lay. The grave that Ireland is touching belongs to Pádraig Pearse, one of the key leaders of the rising and the one who first read out loud the proclamation of Irish independence during the rising itself. While the rising itself failed, its legacy was one of the key moments in eventually establishing independence. I like to think that they knew each other and were close before his death, and he gave him the gloves, knowing of his struggles with his scars.

And there it is so! The fish and chip industry here was started by a southern Italian immigrant who got off at the wrong port! Lucky for us, because there’s nothing like some chipper after a long day or when you have som drink in ye.

The story of the fish and chip industry in Ireland was always really special to me, because I was also a southern Italian immigrant in Ireland. Even today like 99% of chippers are run by Italians. Italians mainly run the chippers in Scotland as well!

This is a short article about Giuseppe Cervi and the first Irish Chipper, today the street where it was is called Pearse Street. Giuseppe and his wife also coined the Dublin term “One and one”, referring to one portion of chips and one portion of fish! Also finally introducing some ships to the blog!!! I’ve always loved IreMano and the fish and chip story was always a big reason lol. I have a lot of Ireland ships and can’t wait to make more content about them!

Oíche Shamhna Shona duit! Happy halloween everyone!!! Wanted to do something a bit longer and outlined for this ask, special for Halloween!! As many of you probably already know, Many Halloween traditions trace back to Celtic roots, and it was Irish and Scottish immigrants who brought Halloween to America! The fae folk depicted with Ireland are:

A Banshee (Irish: bean sì)

A Leprechaun (fun fact, the leprechaun as wearing green is a modern invention, traditionally they wore read and did not wear top hats)

A Fear Dearg (The red man, a cousin of the leprechaun but far more cruel, said to swap babies for changelings)

A Pùca (A shapeshifting mischievous fae) And the tree that Ireland is leaning against is a Hawthorn tree! In Irish folklore, Hawthorn tree's are considered to be fairy trees, and cutting one down is seen as messing with fae folk and considered unlucky.
