[ nap ], and it was completely in accident. She was telling stories of her home, and the moment silence filled their space, her head went onto their shoulder and out goes the princess.

It's peaceful, they think. Not the stories, varying in content from happy memories to things Gran can tell aren't painful anymore, but the moment — the way they're situated on one of the ship's sofas, comfortable sitting with a blanket covering their legs, the candlelight gently flickering in the late night hours. None of them were supposed to be awake, but questions weren't asked, mutual understanding that sometimes you needed something else than talking about reality.
So, Kamui speaks of the place she calls home, and Gran is grateful. Because homes are nostalgic, and warm even when clouded in worse memories, for they're chosen by yourself. Gran knows they're lucky for their home to be a good place. Knows that that's not always the case (thinks of Kolulu who lost hers, of Lyria who doesn't know hers, of Sara who has painful memories of hers). Gran doesn't share anything, finding speaking too difficult and preferring to listen. It's okay when she stops speaking, silence is comfortable too, but when Gran expects her to continue she doesn't — a weight on their shoulder to their surprise. In the corner of their eye they see her, hair against their neck and shoulder, the stories working in the ways Gran liked them to work.
A tiny smile on their lips when they carefully move to bring the blanket over her body, doing their utmost to pause whenever it looks like she'd wake up, and continuing once it felt safe to do so. They won't move, but they won't fall asleep either, watching the candle light alone. Maybe she will wake up, they reason, it couldn't be easy sleeping like that after all, and not wanting to be the reason her sleep's disturbed they stay as still as they can.
But time passes and Kamui's still asleep, and Gran wasn't planning on sleeping, yet slowly their breath starts to synch with hers, eyelids growing heavier and then...with their head gently situated on top of hers, they fall asleep alongside her.
