El Tiede, volcano and centre of the National Park in Tenerife. A beautiful experience, whether viewed from a far or up close and personal.
It costs 27 Euros per adult to ascend the mighty peak by cable car, however spectacular views can be had from afar, or from the base camp.
Once you’ve arrived at the highest point reachable by cable car, you can climb the last few hundred metres by foot. Not for the faint hearted though, it’s a steep incline, with very thin air and rough under foot. You’ll need to have climbing boots and extra clothes as its quite cold up there, despite the blazing heat of the bottom.
Once you’ve got to the base camp, there are snacks and a gift shop selling things made from volcanic rock, along with a range of Tenerife souvenirs. There is also a small cafe selling light bites.
Be warned, once you get to the top, there are only drinks from a vending machine.
There are many ways to reach the Volcano from all sides of the island, however it’s well worth asking the locals which route is the quickest, as the Sat Nav doesn’t account for the twisting roads.
In summary, visiting El Tiede is a once in a lifetime opportunity and well worth the trek.
