Here’s the thing okay. I don’t think Lucien is absolutely vile.

Do I think him and Elain want eachother though? No. Do I think a book about female agency and sex positivity should follow the wants of that main female character? Absolutely.

Whatever Elain wants dude. Thats my kink atp. If she ended up genuinely wanting Lucien at the end fine. I’ll kind of wanna know why and it’ll have to be extremely well written but I’d accept it because SJM wrote it.

Elucien will never work. here's why.

Elain is a seer.

When she was in catatonia, Lucien sat there and said, “Does she need something?” Yeah… thanks for the groundbreaking insight, bestie.

Madja the healer literally says, “If anyone knows what’s wrong, it’s a mate. A mate will know if something is amiss.” Which means Lucien should have known. He didn’t.

Azriel? He clocked she was a seer immediately. He’s the one who actually gets her visions and continues to be the only one who can read her when they happen.

Now picture an Elucien endgame. Elain keeps having visions. Lucien has no clue what she needs because he never has. So Azriel shows up. Every time.

He sits with her. Talks her through it. Helps her figure out what’s going on. Like always.

And where does that leave their “other partners”? Stuck in a permanent third-wheel energy loop while Elain and Azriel have intense emotional moments together.

That tension doesn’t go away. If they’ve already kissed or hooked up, it’s living rent-free in their heads. Every look across a room? Flashback city. And even if they haven’t hooked up? It’s like a ticking time bomb until they do so. 

That is not sustainable. That is not believable. Lucien as endgame only works if you ignore half the canon and pretend Elain’s seer abilities aren’t central to her character. And Gwyn? She was never actually in the running but I guess some people like to cosplay as delusional for fun. All I have to say to that is this
