My last lucky. I could use the luck rn.
I'm in my mid-30s and I have never been able to hold a traditional job for longer than 3 months at a time. I am tired of people like me being infantilized or treated as lazy.
Peach Salsa (A Measure With Your Heart Recipe)
Peaches, slightly underripe
Red and white onions
Jalapeño
Fresh basil
White vinegar (take it easy)
Sugar (take it easy)
Red pepper flakes
Tajin habañero seasoning
Let sit in the fridge for a couple of hours so the flavors have a chance to enter into a polyamorous civil union. Enjoy irresponsibly.
Best way I can describe social aversion (because people constantly equate it to social anxiety or being overstimulated by people or something it's not) is like, yes I get stressed from having to interact, but it's not anxiety. It's the kind of stressed you get from having to chronically perform demanding tasks. And it's almost every time in almost every context. I can have known you for literally half my life and love you and I'm going to be weird about interacting because it's taxing for me regardless. It's not personal. And it is in fact not because I'm really worried about people judging me or the potential for being embarrassed. It's just that socializing is a fucking task.
I don't hate my job. I don't hate the tasks it requires of me. I don't hate working in the service industry. I hate interacting with the occasional rude customer and being woefully underpaid. And only the second thing is a Real problem for me because as soon as someone is rude to me I just stop caring about giving them anything they want. It's not, like, deeply fulfilling work, but it's fine. That wouldn't matter if I were paid enough to do fulfilling things with my leisure time. Anyway I think a lot of people feel the same, "nobody wants to work anymore" is a lie, and the solution is securing a livable minimum wage and benefits, NOT ONLY FOR EMPLOYEES, but including for independent contractors / gig workers.
