Reddit user Bombed recently shared this image, which compares the top contributors to Hillary Clinton and rival Bernie Sanders over the course of their respective political careers. Nine of the top twenty contributors to Hillary Clinton have been corporate, including seven banks and five law firms that often do some sort of corporate lobbying. While 19 of the top 20 contributors to Bernie Sanders’ political career have been labor unions. The data comes from Open Secrets, and as that site notes, the donations often came from individuals rather than the corporations. And there are other variables to consider, including the fact that a Senator from New York is likely to get a lot more corporate money than one from Vermont. That having been said, it does provide a bit of insight into the types of donors that are most willing to support Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders.
