Ciminelli to Tackle Ellicott Street and Niagara Street Projects
The biggest news of Buffalo’s 2016 State of the City address was the announcement of a new supermarket coming downtown to Ellicott Street (top photo), in one of the city’s most aggressively developed areas. Ciminelli Real Estate Corp. will develop the multi-story building that will take the place of the current parking lot, increasing the city’s density. While Tops is currently in discussions with Ciminelli to be the anchor for the project other commercial and residential space will occur leaving the final design of the building still unknown.
Ciminelli also purchased the Garrett Leather Building along Niagara Street with the intention of creating residential and some commercial space (bottom). With a similar style to Buffalo’s historic Trico Building the Garrett Leather Building has a lot of potential to greatly increase the attractiveness of this increasingly developed stretch of Niagara Street along the river. Currently, the building’s large spaces for windows have been mostly cemented off but Ciminelli’s plans will return the nearly century old building to its historic grandeur.
