ELECTRICAL SAFETY

Here is an example of pure, classic stupidity. Bates cables are NOT NEMA 3R rated. They are NOT submersible. They are NOT waterproof. If you can’t figure that out on your own you can simply call the manufacturer and they will advise you on how stupid it it’s to put their energized connectors under water. The technicians were attempting to “cool” the connectors while energized on a hot day. Clearly, they have no diagnostic abilities. If the connectors are getting overly hot then the solution is generally to fix the increased resistance likely cause by a poor connection inside the Bates connector. Easy, it’s just a couple screws. Instead the extremely dangerous idea of submerging them in ice water was drummed up, no GFCI protection. What’s wrong with this idea? Potential for increased amperage? Potential for line-line fault? Potential for line-ground fault? Potential for water conducting electricity directly into human technicians? Potential for corrosión of electrical parts? Do they not understand that the electricity available here could vaporize that water instantly? This is not a small indy or student film by the way.🤦🏻♂️ Done ranting. Electrical Hazards
Sometimes you can be as careful as you could be, but it is the negligence of others that can cause harm.
That is what happened to an electrician in Madison County, who claims that the power system operator failed to follow the proper sequence for shutting down a circuit breaker, and also for failing to provide information or advice that it was going to do just that.
The result? The circuit breaker exploded, and an electrician suffered severe injury, including disfigurement and disability.
A case for negligence is now pending against the power system operator.

How a Leaky Roof Could Cause Electrical Hazard
Electricity is an essential part of our everyday life. It brings light, entertainment and comfort to our home. Without it, our way of life will be vastly different than what we’re accustomed to. However, even with all its uses, electricity is still a dangerous thing that people need to mind. An electrical system that is poorly maintained can present undesirable problems and risk to personal safety. Even a simple short circuit can spell disaster for a household. This is why you need to take good care of your electrical system.
Electrical system failure can result from many things. In this article, we are going to focus on roof leaks as one of the reasons for electrical hazards. A simple leak in your roof can turn into an electrical hazard. Your roofing system is hidden from view which makes it all the more dangerous. You can never tell when your roof’s integrity has been compromised until you check it yourself. This can lead to roof damage becoming undiagnosed until it’s too late.
What makes roof leak dangerous is they can easily seep into your wall. Most of your electrical wirings are installed inside your walls. If water somehow finds its way inside the walls, they can short the electrical wirings inside causing electrical hazard in your home. The scary thing about electrical failures due to water leak is you can never prevent them. They just sort of happen without you knowing it. One thing you can do is to regularly inspect your roof but that’s more of a home maintenance thing. The point is, your electrical system is integrated in your home which means that even a failure from other parts of your house can cause electrical damage.
Leaky roof and electrical fire
It’s hard to spot a leaky roof. It’s even hard to fix it. Before you can fix it, you first should know where the water is coming from. Specifically, you need to know the original source of the leak to be able to patch it. Even if you are able to patch it immediately, electrical lines may have already been exposed to it. Corrosion can cause short circuits and increase the risk of fire on your home.
You also need to protect your roof from critters. Critters can contribute to the problem. Pests like squirrels and rats can eat through an electric insulation fairly easily. This leaves them exposed to water and other outside factors. Even without water, an exposed wiring offers a huge risk of fire.
What can you do to protect your electrical system from fire?
The best thing you can do is to use quality service when installing your electrical system. Only hire a company that you know can provide quality service. Their installation methods should be solid and hazard-free. They should be able to provide extra protection for your system. Another thing you can do is to properly maintain your home. You need to pay good attention to the parts of your home that isn’t even necessarily involved in your electrical system. Pay close attention to your roofs and water system in particular. Once you get those in order, you will decrease the chance of electrical hazard for your home.
A band called Thrice once wrote a song called "Wood and Wire" from their album "Beggars". A song telling the story of a death row inmate on his way to the electric chair; with lyrics making comparisons to the story of Jesus Christ's walk on his way to his crucifixion. This is a different version of "Wood and Wire" telling the story of bored hoodlums in San Bernardino, California. #thrice #woodandwire #beggars #nature #sanbernardino # #alchemyindex #powerlines #electricalhazard #hazard #unsafe
