12 for the monday ask, please!
MUNDAY STYLES AND PREFERENCES
12. Does your descriptive writing change with each muse, do they influence the way that you narrate and use language?
Yes!!! At least, I hope so 😂 It's more evident in threads that are at least three-paragraph-long because I tend to build upon it slowly (and I haven't exactly mastered the art of packing a punch in a few short sentences yet) but it's something I'm very aware of when I switch from one muse to another.
I like to pay attention to how 'forceful' the verbs are, what contraptions I should use, whether the descriptions are more simple and to the point or more flowery, sentence structure and length, repetitions, pace, tone, etc., etc. Generally, I want each muse's personality, disposition, outlook on life to seep through in the narration itself, no matter how limited or omniscient the point of view. A "she said" is a "she said" but the way it's framed can tell so much about a character, and I aspire to make that palpable in my writing!
(Ironically, I find dialogue very easy, but sometimes I struggle to pin down this type of narrative voice and have to do a warm-up until I find it again and it begins to flow naturally.)
