World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated on 5th June every year from 1972. First held in 1974, this special day has a wider response to the first theme “Only One Earth”. With 45 different themes each year, the world environment day has always created positive actions to join hands to protect this planet. Air pollution is the theme of 2019, with the hashtag #BeatAirPollution.

Why Air Pollution became the theme for World Environment Day 2019?

No longer a problem of a region, a country, air pollution becomes a global phenomenon and heavily influences not only to the humankind but all living beings on this Earth.

To emphasize the current situation of air pollution, only in the last month, Guardian magazine decided to ban the phrase “Climate Change” thành “Climate Crisis”. As a big and reputable newspaper, this Guardian’s action is very practical and it helps to raise awareness of the problem we are facing.

What does air pollution look like?

There will be figures, charts, and images that certainly none of us want the content of which is true. But unfortunately, the number doesn’t lie.

According to Business Insider, air pollution is the cause of 8.8 million deaths each year. Besides, there are currently 91% of the world’s population living in areas where air conditions do not meet the safety standards of the World Health Organization (WHO). Among them, the atmosphere of some places is so polluted that it is impossible to see everything within 5m view. Although it is an alarming issue, there has been no sign of improvement.
