Bismuth germanite (Bi12GeO20, BGO) crystals are very reliable photoconductors with a low dark conductivity that allows a build-up of big photo-induced space-charges. Incredible photoconductivity as well as electro-optic buildings make BGO crystals appealing in various applications: spatial light modulators, optical switches, and also stage conjugation mixers. BGO crystals are expanded by the modified Czochralski technique and available in up to 3" diameter aperture size.
