I have an Onn RGB gaming mouse from Walmart. The mouse wheel was acting funky, and it was driving me insane, so I decided to try and clean it. Spraying compressed air into crevices wasn't working, so I realized I needed to be a little more invasive.
Unfortunately, the screws are pretty hidden, and most of the results online just said "idk lol" or "buy a new mouse," so I had to figure it out on my own. Documenting it here for anyone else who cares!
First of all, the screws. This is by far the most annoying part, because the screws are hidden under the pads on the back, which are glued in place. I pried them off using a pin and a pocket knife (there are probably better tools for this, but it's what I had lol)
Important: There are two layers of adhesive. You need to make sure you get down to the second one. I learned this the hard way!
Left: wrong layer. Right: got a little scuffed from pocket knife (oops)
The pads ended up a little bent from me prying them off, but thankfully I was able to reuse them just by sticking them back on. You could probably replace them if you had the right materials?
After that, it's just a matter of getting the screws out and separating the two halves. There aren't any ribbon cables or anything to worry about, so no stress if you're familiar with electronics.
It was pretty gross in there! idk if you can tell from the photos, but there was a bunch of little hairs gummed up in the scroll wheel. So I carefully pulled them out with some tweezers, cleaned the whole thing out with compressed air, then put it back together. Now my mouse wheel works normally and life is great again.
