Things that are not (yet) right about Destroy the Stars.
Being honest .... absolutely honest ... this is a list of all that is not quite right about the tango song.
1. The main vocals ... ALL of them (apart from the first one maybe). There is a nasty ringing noise on the lead which I think might be the room as it's only on certain notes. The feeling is a little forced at times and so is the tuning.
2. The backing vocals. I think they are a bit busy. They perhaps need taking out, although that will be like taking out the main thing that is holding the song up. All the more reason to work without them for a while.
3. The main beat. It is too pop. Too dominant and too jumpy. It is not low enough to the floor.
4. The transitions between sections, especially coming into the second chorus and again into the breakdown. They do not quite work and are a little strained. This may change when I re do the vocals. Let's hope so.
Also ... there is generally not enough darkness in the song. Not enough tragedy. Not enough sadness. I don't actually want it so bouncy and pop. AND there are no stars. I'd quite like to have the stars going out in the song but they are not there at all. This does need to fit the rest of the album and it doesn't at the moment.
Oh God. That's a lot. But I want there to be the right amount of everything. And I want a good vocal. And I want this to be more tragic and more beautiful.
I WILL DO THIS. AND I WILL DO IT BY THE END OF MARCH.
There ... declaration of electronic tango intent. I am serious about getting this right.
