Delia Derbyshire was mentioned in my previous post as one of those whose electronic melodies gave popular music an incentive to try them. It is an idealistic view, cause she is mostly known these days as the person who made Doctor Who's theme out of this world. Seriously, listen to it and wonder how far out it sounds even today, let alone how much it did in 1963. However, that is not the only thing she did, she has many machine pieces, currently lying around your usual compilation discs, which should be more appreciated and they should be acknowledged as crucial steps towards a majority of modern electronic music. Like I said before, sure, you may hear her songs, such as the cut in the link, as archaic, but pay close attention. This one, for instance, is slowly unraveling its atmosphere, making it thru an almost mantra-like repetition of various elements and when it reaches the point where it could develop into something else, it just ends.
