One of the best tribute discs you’re ever going to hear! Of course it helps tremendously if the music being covered is by someone as superb as Jackson Browne. Toss in a group of singers like Don Henley, Bonnie Raitt, David Lindley, Lyle Lovett, Ben Harper, Keb’ Mo’, Lucinda Williams, Karla Bonoff, Marc Cohen, Bruce Springsteen, Shawn Colvin, Bruce Hornsby, Joan Osborne, JD Souther and others. Toss is production work that is almost audiophile quality and you have a double CD set (yeah, yeah, it 16/44 Redbook....get over it) that is among the best you’re likely to hear. All Browne’s hits are here along with songs that mean something special to each singer, thus not only do you get a true tribute album, you get a true overview of Jackson Browne’s career. The other thing a set like this gives you is a truly different view of each song, as each singer adds their own touch to each tune, depending on how that song has moved them. Then we come to the sound, which given how many different musicians were involved, is superlative. A wide, deep soundstage populated by instruments that have a realistic sound from the acoustic guitars to the drums. And the voices are each rendered realistically while still making each one unique to the singer. I picked this up on a whim and now it’s never very far away from my CD player. Yeah, it’s that good. This is an album that blurs the line between digital and analog. And that can be laid at the feet of the material. Great songs being preformed by great musicians recorded with great care. Add it up and it’s a set you want, nay, need to own. Thus double CD set comes with my absolute highest recommendation. #cd #digital #tribute #album #record #stereo #music #singersongwriter #jacksonbrowne #audio #highend #audiophile
