Heard on the radio the other day that one of the reasons humans are so intelligent is because the same gene that protects us from lead exposure also happens to raise the development age. Like you know how the animals who are born ready to survive and shit have a lower ceiling for intelligence? And the animals who are born helpless (like us) take longer to grow up and therefore become smarter. Lead resistance helped us beat out the other losers in our genus
