Bastien dived for the crater, trying to avoid the battle that raged around him. He would have landed on his feet, too, had another explosive round not landed close by. The surge of the blast sent him careening into the makeshift foxhole, landing solidly and none to gently on a body. The air knocked out of him, he looked to make sure he wasn’t cuddling up to a corpse. That was the shit of nightmares.

“You…” He croaked out, voice hoarse as he gasped for air. The ringing in his ears prevented him from hearing anything she was saying, but seeing as he was ungracefully crushing her, he could guess she wasn’t his biggest fan right now. Rolling off her, he laid back in the charred dirt as he got his bearings again.

     Bastien was shouldering his way through a crowded terminal near the elevator, moving against the crowd. Must be quitting time. He had his duffle bag hitched up on his shoulder, not really caring that it kept bumping people in the head. He then made a move to impatiently pass by a woman, bumping into her as he did so. It was then that he felt an unpleasant electrical jolt, a lot like when static electricity shocked you, but a little stronger. Affronted, he looked down at the woman.

     “Did you just zap me?!” Bastien’s voice was rough with impatience.
