Bear with me while I complain about my physiology exam today and some bullshit that my professor tried to pull.

Okay, so I’m in a physiology (PGY 206) class at university, which also has an OPTIONAL, companion course (PGY 207) that does not even go towards my degree. Also, the class times for PGY 207 didn’t fit with the classes I am required to take.

In 206, we had our first exam today. I’m thinking I got a high C, low B. Some of the questions were asked much differently than how we were presented the material. That’s not the point of this post though.

He made it very clear that we were supposed to chose the “SINGLE, BEST” answer. So one of the question rolls around and it’s “Where is transcription most likely to occur?” Without reading the answers, I knew. The nucleus, man. I’ve had that talked about in every biology class since high school. Well guess what? The nucleus wasn’t an option, which, in theory, is the best answer to the question.

I easily narrowed out two, and was left with either ribosomes or mitochondria. I’ve never heard about mitochondria being able to perform transcription, so I’m really iffy about it. ribosomes, however, and included in translation. At first, I thought it might be a typo and he meant to put translation. I asked. Nope. Ultimately, I left ribosomes as my answer because I knew it was at least associated with that whole thing.

After the test, I ask a fellow classmate what they put. They informed me that mitochondria was the correct answer, but it was covered in 207, not 206. 

Now, I am just angry because he expected us to know something that he did not discuss with the class. It was something that I SHOULD HAVE gotten correct, but did not. I am signed up for 206, not 207. Do not test me over stuff that you discussed in 207. I, as well as many other people in my class (207 only has like 60/200+ students) should not be expected to know information gone over in a class that we are not scheduled to attend.
