He didn’t know how he managed to forgot he was about to meet with Elena. Well, actually he did know. He didn’t feel like being told he was going about everything he was doing all wrong, which was bound to happen, but there were more important matters. Aunt Jenna suddenly being Klaus’ biggest fan, for example. So he made his way to Jackson Square, looked around for the brunette until he found her and sat down next to her when she wasn’t paying attention for a moment. 

“If you look at side the view will be much prettier, Elena. Already here.”

Devil on your doorstep - Elena & Damon

The memory of the last time he had stood in front of this door was vague. It was addled by fever dreams, by memories of pain and weakness. The last time he had stood where he was standing now, he had talked Jenna into coming with him to Klaus to help him, just not in the way Jenna had expected to. That night was exactly the reason he kept postponing this visit, but with Stefan turned Ripper, he needed to make sure Elena knew what was going on and more important, that she had to keep her distance from Stefan. Which... wasn’t going to be easy to get through to her. He wasn’t exactly in her good graces, after all.

He hesitated before finally stepping towards the door and knocking it. All he could do was hope she wouldn’t slam the door in his face when she opened.
