“Because you are, Elena.” Damon turned to look at her, his dark eyes unreadable in most cases, but right now they were soft, like melted onyx as they took her in. Swallowing hard, his Adam's apple bobbed in his throat before reaching out and grasping her by the hip, pulling her against him. 

“You’re my girl, right?” Whispering to her, he was tall enough to easily kiss her eyelids, one by one before sliding his lips down to kiss the tip of her nose and then down to the little cleft between her upper lip and nose. At last, Damon pulled her hard against him, their lips finally meeting in this moment for a tender kiss. Elena always brought out the best in him.

"A friend." She repeated the word with such distained, that she was surprised that the original vampire didn't lung at Elena. A sardonic laugh escaped parted lips before choosing her next words carefully. "That's rich, coming from you, Elena." She might be old but her memory was still intact, for better or for worse. The events that lead up to the evening of her first prom still embedded in her mind. "Perhaps you would like to stab me in the back again, while you're at it?"

“I’m sorry, okay!?” Damon was doing his best not to get loud or angry with Elena but he was having a rough night and he hadn’t fed in a while, things were becoming hazy and he had turned inward. Trying his best to be the man Elena wanted, needed. He didn’t know if he was any of those things and he was struggling. To top it off, when a vampire hasn’t fed in a while alcohol can actually get you pretty wasted and in his drunken haze, he had somehow gotten injured.

"How do you know all this stuff?" (Sam)

"Books, hanging out at the library on hunts to help my Dad and brother. My dad didn't teach me how to use a gun until I was nine years old. Pretty much when I knew monsters were real" Sam's childhood wasn't normal. Those other kids with demon blood in them lived normal lives. They didn't know until their powers kicked in. To them their mom just died in a fire, unless she didn't interrupt. He tried to pray the demon blood away. His prayers were never answered.

"The internet didn't exist until I was about fourteen." Sam said, doing the math in his head. "Even back then it kind of sucked. People had to make their own websites. Books were still the better option along with my dad's journal. Now, I can put all the lore in file into a thumbnail."

"Perhaps you're right." Truthfully, she was tired of running. She's been doing this song and dance for a thousand of years. At the hand of Mikael, at the hand of her own brother Niklaus. It was time to stop. Time to put a stand and live the life she's always dreamed of. Or at least as close as she could - she wasn't human, still trapped inside her vampiric body. But she could still find happiness.

"But, when you've been running for as long as I have, it's not easy to stop." An understatement if she's ever heard one. Though Mikael was no longer a threat, there was always something out there lingering, waiting to take shape. Run them to the ground. They couldn't be killed, the original family, but that never stops anyone from trying.

Oh gosh, I don't usually send these kinds of messages to people, because I know there are people out there who don't like receiving these chain messages. Which, totally understandable! So I might pass on doing that, just for that particular reason alone. But I appreciate this, regardless!

As for things that make me happy, oh gosh. uh

My animals for sure. I am such an animal person that I don't think I could imagine a life without animals in them.

Traveling. I just love it, even though I don't necessarily travel well & I hate traveling alone. LMAO. But it definitely makes me happy when I can visit other places and learn about different cultures.

My books. Like animals, I don't think I can imagine a life without books. There's nothing like reading a good book and wishing you were apart of that universe, instead of this shit-show.

Comfort television shows. When I actively want to watch tv, I often go back and re-watch things I've seen a dozen times. New things don't really entice me that much? BUT I'm definitely always open to suggestions. But there's just something I love about rewatching a show I've seen a dozen times.

Family/Home. I'm a homebody person, always have been. I don't really go out much unless I'm either forced, or I'm enticed with a trip to the bookstore. (I'm not kidding). But also my family - we're relatively close and I honestly don't know what I'd do without them. ♥

It had been too long since he stood at the heart of Mystic Falls. For a moment, he let the familiarity of the place wash over him. No, not the white picket fence nonsense that had been sold to its brainwashed residents for years but the true Mystic Falls.

The one he had once called home.

He only let himself breathe it in for a moment then he was moving. He had come, after all, to see someone specific.

He arrived on the Gilbert doorstep minutes later. The street was quiet, which served his purposes well. He didn't want to be disturbed. A smile crept across his face as he raised a fist and ever so politely knocked on her door.
