Eleni C.

London-based rising pop star Eleni C is back and even more powerful than ever with her new offering 'Tug of War'. A track nurtured with independent optimism created by bold, fierceful and empowering vocals entwined with regular beated rhythms.

The release of 'Tug Of War' follows the overwhelming success of her previous singles 'Silent Voices' and 'I Don’t Give a Damn'. Eleni’s passion for music and raising awareness of mental health has been developed from her immensely successful National school tour. She has unapologetically become a source of inspiration for many.

We had a chat with Eleni all about 'Tug Of War', what she's been up to and what she had planned next. Read the Q&A below.

Hi Eleni! How are you? What have you been up to during lockdown?

"Hey, thank you! I am well; I hope you are doing well too.

"Well lockdown has been a revelation. It has afforded me the time not only to write new music and to plan my music videos but to also complete a course on mental health."

You've just released your excellent new single 'Tug Of War'. What inspired the track?

"Like all my songs the inspiration for the lyrics comes from real life and the song is written in a way to make the listener think.

"In particular this song is all about two people that are in love but they don’t know how to be happy together. So one of them has to be brave enough to say ‘no more’ we need to stop this however painful it might be."

Who/what has the biggest influence on your sound and aesthetic?

"Biggest influences I can honestly say are Christina Aguilera, Adele, Shakira, George Michael and Maluma."

Aside from your music career, you have toured schools raising awareness for mental health which is amazing. Please tell us more about that and why it's so important to you.

"Mental health is very close to my heart as I grew up witnessing members of my family and close friends struggling with mental health issues. I witnessed how it consumed the lives of the individual as well as the people that cared and loved them. Also a lot of my friends in the music industry have faced mental health issues that in many cases forced them to walk away from the music industry.

"I always promised myself that if I ever had a platform I was going to use it to make a difference to try and help eliminate the stigma attached to mental health. I paired up with ‘Young Minds’ and ‘The Mix’ charities and I am educating myself more and more on the topic in order to make a positive impact with my mental health talks during my school tours."

Finally, what are your plans for 2021? Will there be a video for 'Tug Of War'? More new music? I expect you're excited to perform live again when it is safe to do so?

"I have got so many plans for 2021, and I hope the Covid19 nightmare will be over soon.

"Yes! There will be a video for ‘Tug of War’ which it took ages to arrange going through all the Covid19 restrictions but I was determined to adhere to all the rules and regulations.

"There will be a lot more new music in 2021 resulting in my EP release later on in the year and yes, I can’t wait to perform live again to feel the energy of the crowd. I really missed that."
