This girl was the most impressionable lion we saw while in the Masai Mara Conservancy. She was fighting for scraps and when I first saw her, she was on the back side of our truck and eating scraps alone....away from the other lions... once finished, she walked to join the others and you could see her bones, ribs, and she was definitely not healthy, aging and shunned. The male lion roared at her, so did the females as she approached the one pregnant female with the wildebeest head left. The other female lions greeted her with love, head buts and some kindness. It didn’t make me feel any better about her wellness... she finally got up and walked across the Mara and this is when we found the rest of the pride... some of the females followed her... then, so did the large male... and realized that she was much older... must have been the mother of the females that kept coming to greet her -‘s cuddle. It was so sad... she laid there feet from us and I took many photos of her beauty. I wonder how long she has, will she survive or if she’s even still alive. She’s obviously lived through so many pride take overs and this one, the last. A matriarch. A beautiful lioness in her maturity... the weak don’t survive and it reminds you again that the old, don’t survive in this world once they can’t keep up. It’s sad. As I have my birthday fast approaching, I am questioning my own timeline. . . . . #masaimara #masainorthconversancy #elephantpepper #love #life #africa #safari #kenya #masaimaranationalpark #lion #travel #travelphotography #canonphotography #canonm50 (at Mara North Conservacy) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9QeODZg-nf/?igshid=sb2nnvq74em4
