Here's my full playthrough of Elex II, now fully live on YouTube!
My playthrough of Elex II on the PS5!
I finished Elex II tonight! I honestly really enjoyed it, though it certainly had its ups & downs. The story & voice acting was excellent, and the game was FILLED with lore, which is great because I didn't play the first game! The exploration and looting is top notch, due in part both to the jetpack mechanic and the UNLIMITED inventory! Though I will say, I may have played the PS5 version, but it certainly didn't feel like a PS5 game. The graphics and animation was sub-par, but admittedly not so bad as to be immersion-breaking. The enemies seemed varied at first, until I realized they were all made on a set number of rigging skeletons and I was able to predict the attacks of new enemies simply because they matched the skeletons of old enemies. The combat felt great, even though despite the many ways I could've played I mostly stuck to sword & shield. If it were possible to Platinum the game in one play, I would've, but it is very much not with how many options you're given for playstyle! All together I'd give it a solid 7 or 8/10! Highly recommended if you have the time to play a long RPG!
The environment designers for Elex II really had fun with skeletons, and I for one am so incredibly happy they did. I keep finding them in weird places, or in positions that very obviously tell a story, and tonight I found one that was a direct Lord of the Rings reference! Seriously, it's shit like this that makes my obsessive need to explore and loot everything absolutely worth the time!
Example 1, the classic toaster in the bathtub!
Example 2, Gollum complete with (plastic) ring! It even had a caption parodying the writing on the One Ring!
Elex II is to Fallout what Kingdoms of Amalur is to Skyrim. A third-person, lower overall quality, yet still fun take on the genre. Though to compare Elex II and KoA, the former wins so far by a lot (mostly because the latter needed an exploit to function properly).
