As a teacher I run across many heart breaking situations. (Story for Bright AU) PT 6
Just as Kandomere’s lips claimed Tammy’s his phone rang. Pulling away he pulled it out of his breast pocket and answered curtly. His eyes never left hers as he listened for a moment and answered with a “Fine.” That look was one she knew all to well, “Duty calls.” With a small smile she adjusted his tie. “I’ll keep you updated. Get some rest, Yavanna will be a sleep for a while with the medicine. Lock the door when I leave and do not open it for anyone. Do you understand?” The look she gave him showed she did so he walked past her to the kitchen to get his jacket. “I will keep you updated. I promise.” With that he opened the door and left leaving Tammy alone in the living room drowning in her thoughts of the worst. She turned out the lights one by one and entered her bedroom to feel how lonely it was now. He kissed her. Her friend, the elf agent who had been helping her with Yavanna had kissed her. Her lips still tingled from the warmth of his but his actions after taking the call filled her with confusion. She hasn’t thought of pursuing any relationship besides friendship with Kandomere. How could she? An elf even as just as Kandomere wouldn’t. Would he? Tammy turned out the light and crawled under the covers letting the exhaustion take over. Her thought of if she had locked the door was drowned out by the thick blanket of sleep.
Across the city in one of the oldest mansions sat an elf, Reiner. He, along with 10 others were in a large dining room surrounded by the most elegant of furnishings. The silence would be deafening for any human but this was the setting the male preferred. Silent patience. He paid no mind to others at the moment but his sense could still detect their loyalty to him. The infernie took a hard hit with Layla’s wand being taken by the mtf but there was still a chance at getting the upper hand. Reiner’s bright green eyes stayed closed yet focused. He could see them all sitting around him, his right hand, Erwinian sat in the chair on his right reading the paper. Next to him sat his brothers, Armin and Lakin. Finally Ryker took the last seat on that side of the table. To Reiner’s left was Davi and his brother Mando. Followed by Lanakin and Ginji. Odan and his wife Ravian sat in a love seat against the wall the door was at. Yes, their loyalty will be used to it’s fullest. His thoughts were interrupted by his phone chiming. Looking nothing short of bored he answered, “Reiner.” His expression giving nothing away with his answer to whom ever was on the other end of the call. “Very good.” Ten pairs of eyes turned to him as his deep voice broke the stagnant atmosphere. He sat the phone down and addressed his company. “It seems we’ve had a bit of unexpected delay.” At speaking he stood, his presence commanding attention. “My offspring has been seen at an elven hospital. Striking now would only jeopardize her health. We wait a little longer. The Owl will give us the signal.
“I still do not trust this... individual. It’s as if we are being stalled purposely.” Sneered Ravian. She as well as her husband have become impatient with this situation. Reiner focused his eyes on her, “Patience is key when the Dark Lord is concerned. Practice that my dear. You as well Odan.” Both nodded, accepting the mild scolding from their superior. “However..” Reiner continued, “I understand the urge. I want you both to use this energy to find out what you can on the agent over seeing this human and my offspring. Find out what he knows but do not engage.” Odan and Ravian stood bowing their heads to him. Erwinian then spoke, “Reiner, this agent is skilled. He...” Reiner raised his hand cutting his second in command off. “I have spoken.” Erwinian bowed his head respectfully and the couple left to start their mission.
Kandomere at that time had entered the MTF and was met by Montahugh. “Do we have any leads on who it is?” The red head looked tiredly at his boss, “No. We couldn’t get them to stay on the line for a trace.” The elf looked him as they entered the elevator to take them to their office, “Them?” The man nodded his head, “Yeah. We haven’t identified the voice changer they’re using so we have no idea if it’s a man or a woman.” “I see.” The doors opened and the pair made their way to their office. As Montahugh closed the door Kandomere continued. “I want to keep a 24 hour surveillance on Tammy and Yavanna. We know Reiner is here but he’s keeping a very low profile.” The red head scratched his beard, “This isn’t how Layla and her team of killers acted. She never let anyone know where she was. What’s the deal with this Reiner?” The elf took his partner’s question into careful consideration. “Layla needed the wand to resurrect the Dark Lord, he may not. If he isn’t in need of a wand Reiner wouldn’t be concerned about anyone knowing the area he’s in. This enables him to blend in and flex the power he has..” “Damn.” Kandomere looked at his partner, “Yes. And he can potentially be more of a danger than he already is if he get what he wants.” Montahugh shook his head, “Yavanna.” The elf needn’t answer, his partner had it figured out so he looked out the window at the city. It looked so peaceful but the elf could feel the storm brewing. This maybe the last stand the nine races have against the infernie and the dark lord. Thoughts of Tammy filled his mind, her smile, laugh, honesty. She had never been one to fling herself at him, instead she saw him, Kandomere, for who he is. A loyal friend and now he had raised the stakes. He could feel her lips against his in that instant and he hope beyond hope he hadn’t damaged what they had. Seeing Yavanna so sick and Tammy fulfilling the roll of mother had made him proud but it was in that moment he knew, he could sense she would die for this child. That thought alone scared him and in a laps of judgment he showed her. Hopefully without putting a target on her back.
