I feel like the only time Gavin would really want to change his form would be as Freelancer grows older. Not just for their sake, but because he likes the idea of just growing older with them. He may have eternity, but he'll let himself look as if the passage of time has an affect on him as Freelancer changes.

And as Freelancer reaches the end of their life, he turns back into that form they first met him in, the form he had when they had both fallen in love. A reminder of how long they lasted, how happy of a life they had with him.

It's the only time he's willing to change form for someone else's sake, because it's someone he loves, it helps them feel less depressed over their difference in lifespans. And he gets to choose the form still. He doesn't lose that choice, and brings comfort to the person he cares for so much. It's a win-win in his eyes.

What if I headcanoned that Vincent was planning to propose to his "forever person" after the games?

What if I headcanoned that he planned to give them a nice dinner after the games, before they went to their bedroom, where there were rose petals arranged on their bed to say "Will you marry me?"

What if I headcanoned Vincent feeling sorrowful, carrying Lovely in his arms and barely able to stand, as he took them to their bedroom and remembering what he had planned?

What if I headcanoned that when he placed Lovely on the bed, he swept the petals off of the bed?

What if I headcanoned that he hid the box that had been burning in his pocket the entire day and night somewhere they wouldn't look?

What if I headcanoned him putting off his plans indefinitely because there's no way he's going to put the stress of starting a new chapter on his Lovely, when they just started a new one where they would need all the help they can get? Need someone to guide them and make sure they don't harm anyone else or themselves?

What if I headcanoned after Lovely wakes and sees the rose petals, Vincent brushes it off as him originally planning to give them a "relaxing" night after the games, but no longer so with...everything, especially with their senses freshly heightened and their mind trying to catch up.
