Hello! New follower here who just found your *treasure trove* of Rebelcaptain fics! I saw you were working on a follow-up to a bodyguard fic you had. Which is the bodyguard fic so I can read that first? 🙂

Oh goodness, good luck my dear! There’s quite a lot there, lol.

I’m going to recommend in general reading from my oldest fics to my newest fics, but since I will be posting that followup this week, the bodyguard fic is called It’s Just Good Politics.

( I give most of my fics some sort of artistic dumb title and then just call them “that dumb au” )

In ADoD, are Arya & Gendry closest to any of their kids in particular? Or is there something that each of them share with their kids that's particular to their relationship with that child?

I’m going to preface this by saying that they love all their kids equally. Don’t get it twisted. That being said, they obviously have different relationships with each of their kids.

Cass and Arya are very similar and cass really idolizes her mom. She knows that Arya had to work hard to create her own place in society where she could be a lady with autonomy and agency. They bond a lot over swords and governing. She and Gendry share the same dry sense of humor and she likes to watch him take petitions and help out in the forge.

Serena is just a total daddy’s girl. Neither of her parents really share her interests, but they do encourage her and praise her for her hard work. Gendry is totally wrapped around her finger and she knows it. She loves when he tells her stories and talks about his life before Storm’s End. She’s an avid horsewoman which is how she and Arya bond, and she’s actually a pretty brilliant tactician, though she doesn’t like to fight.

Rhaelle is a mini Arya. She’s so full of energy and stubbornness. Gendry has a soft spot for her because she’s so much like her mom. She loves climbing trees, which Gendry anxiously supervises. Arya teaches her water dancing and Rhae loves the idea of traveling all over the world, though she especially wants to go north.

Joss is so shy and Arya is so extroverted that they don’t always have things in common. Once she warms up to him, Gendry becomes the parent that she really clings to. Even when she’s older, she’ll come to him with problems. Arya connects with her through archery, but Gendry is her confidante.

Ned is really close with his mom. He loves swimming, sailing, fishing, and anything else to do with water. Gendry does learn how to swim but still isn’t overly keen on boats. Arya and Davos are his go-to people for that. Gendry does teach him to fight though, since they’re similar in build. They even use the same weapon.

Orryn is probably the most neutral as far as his affections. He doesn’t tend to prefer one parent over the other but if he HAD to pick, it would probably be Arya. She teaches him a lot about swordplay and encourages him to chase his dream of becoming a knight.

When they’re at a point where they have to divide and conquer Arya takes Cass and the boys, and Gendry gets Serena, Rhae and Joss.

Seeing as how you've given an open invitation to ask about ADoD, I may have many questions 😁 How has Arya handled raising so many girls, coming from a family of mostly brothers? Especially interested in Serena, since she seems to be the most inclined to typically 'feminine" hobbies of reading, sewing, etc. that Arya sort of rejected as a young girl.

I think that Arya worries about raising daughters as much as Gendry worries about raising sons, but she doesn’t need to. Turns out that girls are much easier to raise when you let them decide who and what they want to be. Arya was such a “trial” to Catelyn because she refused to conform the the patterns of behavior that were expected of her, but Arya doesn’t demand a certain type of femininity from her girls.

That being said, the household dynamic doesn’t differ too much from what she grew up with as a kid. There are definitely a few differences, like the number of dresses involved, but most things are the same. Even Cassie’s relationship with Ned is very similar to Jon’s relationship with her.

Obviously she doesn’t have favorites, but she does sometimes have a harder time understanding her “girly-girls” and their interests, especially Serena. Usually the thing that they bond over is horseback riding, since that’s the one big interest that they share. Joss at least takes up archery and cooking, which Arya likes to instruct her in, but Serena is such a lady that it’s sometimes hard for them to find things they both enjoy. It also doesn’t help that she’s been a total daddy’s girl from day one. 😂

Just had to tell you in every possible way I can that I loved the newest update to ADoD! Question - do you picture anyone in particular (famous or otherwise) when you were writing a grown Cass?

I tend to picture Cass along the lines of Katie McGrath’s Morgana from the BBC’s Merlin series, though Cass would definitely be less refined. 😂 I think she’s a popular face claim for Gendrya babies, but you can see why. Other than her and Rhae, I don’t really have particular people that I picture, though I wish I did so you guys could visualize them better. If you have any suggestions, let me know. I’m interested to see them!

Brenna headcanon? :)

Oooh! This is a fun one! Brenna is like 16 when Arya and Gendry get to Storm’s End and is low-key terrified of them at first. She likes the way they do things though, and Arya likes her because she’s secretly snarky and hilarious. She’s one of those people that babies just love for some reason, which is lucky.

First mate of the HMS Gendrya at Storm’s End. Brenna pretends she hasn’t walked in on them banging multiple times and Arya pretends she didn’t see her making out with the scullery maid behind the stables that one time. It’s a good arrangement.

Send me a character’s name and I’ll give you some headcanons about them from my ADoD universe.
