When Mythal and Elgar’nan first took form, their connection must have been nothing short of elemental. Two spirits suddenly confined to flesh, sensation, and new emotions for the first time? He burned with creation’s fire and she rose like the tide to meet it. He raged, she soothed, he was fire, she was water. He was sun, she was moon.

Their relationship as the first two elves would have been born of awe and discovery, it would have been fierce, magnetic, and intoxicating - filled with explosive passion - toxic, positive, hateful, possessive, oppressive, freeing, fulfilling. They would have experienced everything the first time with each other. Opposites drawn to what they lacked in themselves once they took form. Partners, co-founders, consorts - the All-Father and All-Mother.

And what fascinates me most is the slow spiral of their relationship. When did it begin to deteriorate? How? When did Mythal she realize could no longer temper Elgar'nan to the point she needed to use Wisdom, as a weapon.

Spirit!Elgar'nan and Spirit!Mythal, and a tiny orb of Harmony developing between them. Also a silly comic of the real (/silly) reason that Elgar'nan decided to take form to begin with.

Isn’t it crazy that Elgar’nan was the first spirit to successfully bind itself to matter? The will on this being to be able to so do.

And Elgar’nan, as the first spirit to take form, would have been so unbalanced with no one to reflect him. And he was. The earliest stories about him always describe him as raging and battling - pure will without reflection, power with no equal to temper it.

For Mythal, watching from the Fade as a spirit embodying justice or even benevolence, that must have been such a draw. To see this imbalance and to want to balance it. For her to choose to take form, leave the Fade and leave her companion spirit, meant that something in Elgar’nan drew her from the Fade. A different type of call to her purpose. And when she took form, it wasn’t to destroy him.

She “walked out of the sea of the earth’s tears and onto the land, placed her hand upon his brow- and at her touch, he grew calm.” Sounds like two new beings discovering each other, being seen in each other.

Mythal and Elgar'nan are two halves of a whole in material form. In him, she found purpose beyond abstraction as a spirit. She could be physically what she had always represented spiritually. For a spirit of Justice/Benevolence that would be a revelation - to exert that purpose in flesh. “We are the best of physical and spirit,” she would later say to Wisdom and I think she meant it. I think Mythal loved her form. And I think Elgar'nan loved his as well and together they reveled in each others forms for a time, reflecting each other, being seen. So I think Mythal left the Fade to join Elgar'nan out of fascination and purpose.

And can you imagine how fascinating Elgar'nan must have found Mythal as well? He, a being of pure dominance and power finding peace in her touch?

Together they formed a harmony in flesh - flame and water, sun and moon. Together they "brought back to life all the wondrous things that the sun had destroyed, and they grew and thrived" - building their pantheon together.

It makes their eventual fall as a the All-Father and All-Mother even more delicious.

Elgar'nan

The two of them, Elgar’nan and Mythal, revel in their victory. Together in their power, together with the other spirits who have manifested, they have brought down their first Titan. The elves, in their triumph, have already set to work, tapping and breaking through the rock-hard exterior of the fallen Titan, carving into the veins to draw forth the glorious blue glow and potency of its blood - lyrium.

The elves have taken their fill of it, already planning for the next wave of spirits who wish to manifest, working with urgency and careful attention to carry the lyrium spilling forth back to their growing home, the foundation of the first dynasty they will raise in glory. Oh, the designs that Elgar'nan and Mythal have.

As the last elf leaves the site, bearing the final vessels filled with lyrium, Mythal and Elgar’nan remain behind, standing in the wake of it, staring upon their victory.

The times were far simpler before we were gods. We did not know how good we had it until it was gone.

The sun had gone to sleep at last, obedient, buried beyond the horizon. Darkness lay still over this new world. Elgar’nan reclined against the earth, his naked body cooling in the open air, stirring at the sight of her.

Mythal walked toward him from the sea, her own naked form lithe and vibrant, salt drying on her skin as the moon caught and glistened along her curves. She lay beside him, pressing her body close and lifted her hand to his brow.

He drew in a breath at her touch. The fury that had ruled him only moments before burned down to embers and now, a new fire was being stoked as she ran her hands over him.

Mythal shifted, climbing over his strong, muscled frame and stared down at him. He was glorious beneath her, a titan in repose. She straddled him and leaned down, her long dark hair spilling to either side of his face as she drew her flesh tight against him.

The earth beneath them held their warmth as she claimed his mouth with her own. Locked mouths turned into locked bodies and soon the very first two elvhen born drove together in a hard, feral rhythm - rutting, rocking, screaming into the darkness until the sun rose again in the sky, and shone it's golden light upon the earth.
