i keep seeing people say, ‘aegon can’t be real because then jon and dany will be less special. they’re the hidden prince/ess’ and it’s wrong because they’re not the only hidden prince(ess) in the story, every stark right now is hidden and because robb was king, they’re all princes and princesses. no one knew theon survived the destruction of winterfell until his escape so technically, he’s a hidden prince (until he got found). wow so many hidden royal family members and yet your perception of jon and dany as the most special characters ever remained so why is aegon such a threat?
wait, i know, it’s because you want jon and dany to be the only targaryens because you think asoiaf is all about the targs and how these two are going to meet and fall in love and kill the others. let me put you at ease, aegon’s story isn’t about him being a targaryen or rhaegar’s son, it’s about him being elia’s son. we got dorne chapters and quentyn chapters because aegon is elia’s son. house martell is going to be embed in aegon’s wars so grrm set up arianne and areo’s pov and then later he gave us quentyn so things get even more personal for the martells (as though they aren’t personal enough as it is). aegon needs dorne to win the throne and meeting arianne and elia sand will introduce some internal conflict for him. the only parts that are relevant to rhaegar is joncon and aegon having the targ look. that’s it.
this fandom is so white-centric that they will literally do anything but analyse characters of colour. as soon as aegon showed up, it was ‘this is supposed to be rhaegar’s kid? he can’t be, that’s jon’s role so he must be fake,’ and people haven’t looked back since. wait, lately they’ve been doing ‘aegon thinks he’s real but he’s a puppet and he does what everyone tells him to do and that’s soooo sad,’ which is not canon. aegon listens sometimes but once he decides on a course of action, it’s hard to change his mind (refusing to hide when the stone men attacked, refusing to let tyrion get thrown overboard, changing the golden company’s plan, leading a battle with his men).
anyway the fact that aegon was on the mother rhoyne completely escapes these people. i don’t think they know what river he’s on or the fact that he’s travelling with the orphans of the greenblood or the fact that everyone believes they saw a rhoynar god and it’s explicitly connected to aegon. none of that registers because they care way more about white characters than characters of colour because they literally can’t see where the dornish characters come in or what role they will play.
