Last month in Collier County 60 dead sea turtles washed ashore - many which have been confirmed to have been killed by red tide. Fifty of these were Kemp’s Ridley sea turtles - the smallest and most endangered on the planet. These pictured are only a few of the ones I was able to personally help report & write up. Statistically 1/1000 hatchlings make it to adulthood. To replace losses like we are having will take about 60,000 hatchlings - so somewhere in the neighborhood of 600 successful nests. Marco Island had 91 nests this season, and of those 62 hatched successfully. The numbers don’t lie. If this was a profit/loss breakdown the company’s board of directors would be making rampant changes. That is what we need to do: act. These animals are already critically endangered. I drove out to Santa Barbara early this morning to meet with a new teammate and planned on working from a coffee house for the day. Only to find out I brought the wrong lap top!! Agh!!! This one doesn’t work!! Thank goodness though for smart phones and free WiFi!! But most of all thank goodness for this liquid gold!! Coffee and water refills. I just don’t like the plastic waste!! These places really need to get on board with eliminating all this wasteful plastic. Note to self: Next time bring my own refillable cup. :/ Do you carry a refillable cup everywhere you go??
