"So, I have some... awkward news. I can't leave. I mean, you're wonderful and I'm not trying to cut and run, but I won't be able to drive on the roads for a few more hours. So, you know... I'm stuck here. I'm so sorry, like if you wanted me out of your hair, I completely understand and I can just sit in another room until the roads are cleared. Um, we could have sex again? Like if you want to, but no worries if not." Elio started to ramble, his cheeks pink from the cold and the embarrassment. How stupidly cliche, getting stuck at his date's house. This was only their second date, they didn't know anything about each other yet!

"There's leftover sufganiyot if you want. We can eat them while we open presents." Elio said, pointing to the plate with jelly donuts sitting on the counter. He had made and brought them to his family's Hanukkah party and there was enough to take back home with him and Avery. As he predicted, his family liked Avery, loved her even, seeing how important she was to him. But now they were back home, lights on the tree twinkling merrily, ready to spend the rest of the evening alone. Elio hadn't really done Christmas before but he was excited to do it with Avery. He had definitely gone a little overboard on presents, thrilled to have a girlfriend during the holiday season, but it was what he was planning on admitting that was the most important gift. He just hoped she would be nice if she didn't feel the same.

Elio had sent the text to Wren a few minutes ago, giving her the address of his small apartment. He'd spent a good few hours getting everything ready for her. He'd cleaned his apartment, aided by his eldest sister coming in to inspect because she had crazy standards. Then a shower and multiple outfits changes. Then he could focus on the thing he actually liked: cooking. Despite it being his job, Elio found a serenity in making food. Peace and clarity coming to him easily in the kitchen. Wren was the first girl he'd been interested in dating in a long while, he didn't want to mess this up. The enchiladas had a few more minutes left to cook, when he heard the knock on the door. "Coming!" He yelled back, wiping his hands on his old, stained apron and opening the door. "Hey, Wren. Come on in. You're just in time, the enchiladas are almost done."

"Okay, so this mint has been growing in my garden for a few weeks now and I made tea with it earlier today so it's perfect. I figure I can go old school and do a rack of lamb with mint jelly. Maybe do a nice garlic crust. How does that sound?" Elio asked, smelling the leaf and grinning. He was confident in his cooking abilities but he rarely got far enough with someone to cook for them. Usually he made people pay if they wanted to try his food.

"Feel free to turn on the tv or something, put on a movie. I just need to finish with these potatoes and I'll be done with my passover prep. It shouldn't take too much longer. I offered to make more than just the potato kugel but my mom said no. She said she hires a kosher chef for a reason."

"Hey, while I'm doing this, can you grab the cake out of the oven? Once it's cool I'll be able to pour the ganache over it." Elio said, carefully stirring so the milk didn't burn. "Are you sure you don't want it to be dark chocolate ganache? I have a bar or two in the pantry."

"Huh, who would've thought my therapist was right? This stuff does help." Elio grinned, knowing his therapist was usually consistently right about things. He honestly didn't doubt her when she talked about the rage room, but he didn't think it would feel as great. "How are you doing? You went berserk in there. It was awesome to watch."
